+Wingnut316
Once geocaches are loaded onto the Garmin, how can one or more be removed if you decide not to look for that exact one? You would think you could highlight it on the GPS and hit a deleate button. Thank you. Quote Link to comment
+mpilchfamily
It all depends on how the caches where loaded. If you load them one at a time either through the Send to GPS button or otherwise then each cache is a separate file in the GPX folder on the unit. Seeing that you are a PM i assume you have loaded them as a PQ. In which case its all or nothing. What you can do is open up the GPX file on the unit in a program like GSAK and delete the caches you don't want from there and save it back to the unit. Quote Link to comment
+GArunner
I just received my Garmen eTrex 10. I am a newbie since July 2011 and have been using the Geomate Jr (very easy to use - just turn it on). I decided to download some directly off the website and from my bookmarks. I think if you did it that way you can open the garmen folder on the computer and delete them from it. I would like to add to this question: I was wondering if it would be possible to create a folder in the garmin folder (on the comuputer) and dropdrag into this new folder to have them in categories. I travel all around the metro altanta area and sometimes do not return to certain areas. It would be nice to look for them one day and then delete them. I have not explored Pocket Quaries so I am not sure how this relates to that. Quote Link to comment
+GArunner
Best you could do is have separate 'categories' on SD cards, and insert the one you want ... Thanks! That is why people want an SD slot on their GPS! Quote Link to comment
+GeoTrekker26
Yep, not very elegant I know but I can't think of another way. Bear in mind that the Etrex will show you the caches nearest to you first, personally this works for me and I see no need to have separate categories since if I'm not close to them they never appear on my list, unless I scroll down down down If you did a lot of traveling you might understand the need for separate categories. It's nice to have one set for near home and another one or two for the places I plan to visit. Quote Link to comment
+gnomesrtrolls
We just purchased the E-Trex 20 & have been trying to figure out if we need to put any other maps on it. If we do need to, then what maps do we add to it? We are new to this & of course had to purchase something where we could add Pocket Queries & WayPoints etc. HELP! Quote Link to comment
Wintertime
What maps you need depends on where you'll be using the eTrex. As others have pointed out, having a topo map can, for example, indicate that there's a creek between where you are and where a geocache is. If you'll be using the GPSr in local parks, check to see whether anyone has created hiking-trail maps of those parks. Even if you only want street maps, there are often free ones available that are much more detailed than the ones built in to the unit. Quote Link to comment
McPatt
you have to delete then on your PC not the GPS. Once geocaches are loaded onto the Garmin, how can one or more be removed if you decide not to look for that exact one? You would think you could highlight it on the GPS and hit a deleate button. If you're already navigating to a geocache and decide you don't want to get it, log your attempt (on your device) as "found". It will no longer appear as an active geocache. If you want to remove it completely from your device, plug it in to your computer, click on "my computer", click on the blue triangle, click on Garmin, click on GPX, find the "GC" file you no longer want, highlight it and delete it. It's now gone forever. Quote Link to comment

It seems like it would be pretty simple for the GPS programming to put caches logged as Found, Unattempted, DNF and Needs Repair in different files and delete everything logged from the active cache list. We have just upgraded from an etrex 10 to an etrex 20, we tried to figure out how to upload some of the free maps but couldn't get it to work. Ended up buying the Birds Eye Maps from Garmin and they have been really easy to upload through Base Camp onto the GPS and they've proved really good when we have been out. Quote Link to comment

While not specific to your device, most current Garmin GPSr load maps the same way, so you may find some of the information here helpful. +suns778
http://www.garmin.com/en-US/shop/downloads/basecamp if you download the basecamp app from the garmin site, you can connect to your device. it will display all your geocaches. you can click on the cache name and delete it from the list which will delete it off your gps, this is much easier than figuring out the gc code for the cache you are trying to delete Quote Link to comment
