+UniVoxel
If I replace a full log sheet with a new one (in a cache not owned by me), and if there is no room to leave the old log sheet (say in one of those nano-sized caches), what do I do with the old log sheet? Just discarding the old one seems wrong. What is the proper procedure here? Quote Link to comment

+niraD
Some people post a photo of the old log. Personally, I wouldn't have removed the original log, but that ship has sailed. Quote Link to comment
+dprovan
Some people post a photo of the old log. Yeah. I think it works well to take a picture of the old log and attach it to the find log online. Personally, I wouldn't have removed the original log, but that ship has sailed. I agree with niraD here, too. Quote Link to comment

Just discarding the old one seems wrong. What is the proper procedure here? Like the cache container itself, the log's not yours to take or discard. It belongs to the CO. You should make every effort to get it back to them if you removed it. Send them a message asking if they want it. Quote Link to comment
+igator210
In the posted example, they stated the log was completely full and there was no room to leave both logs. The options are (1) don't do maintenance and let the next person deal with it, or (2) do the maintenance and take the log. In my area, the CO's appreciate a little help (provided they are active CO's). A quick message to the CO and you can get your answer as to what to do with the old log. A lot of times I hand it off at the next event. Edited May 27, 2016 by igator210 Quote Link to comment

A lot of times I hand it off at the next event. Yes indeed, that was my point. It is either do nothing (no log), or do log but be forced to remove the old log. This is a hypothetical example, I haven't encountered such a cache (yet). But I did find a nano the other day that was hard to write a log entry in (damp paper), and it was so small that it could not have held an additional new log. I agree, contacting the CO first and ask for advice is the best thing to do. But what if I can not come back to this location any time soon but still would like to log it? Well, maybe I am overthinking this. Is it really that important that we log every find? ;-) Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
I always find room to write HD somewhere on the log. Quote Link to comment
+WarNinjas
Take a picture of it and post it on your found it log. I usually only do this for CO's I know though. Quote Link to comment

Some caches owners like to verify the signature on the physical log with those that are posting online found it logs. How is the CO going to do that if the old physical log is removed? Don't... take... logsheets. Remember, play the game the way you want to, in the parts that pertain to you! Play the rest of the game like it's someone else's. Quote Link to comment

Usually over someones faded signature or squeezed between lines. And I log a NM. Quote Link to comment

How is the CO going to do that if the old physical log is removed? Couldn't the person who took the old log just take a picture of the log and send it to the CO? I always carry replacement logs and will often replace full logs and remove the old log if there's no room for two logs (like in a nano). I always message the CO afterwards and offer to either take a picture of the old log or to mail the CO the old log or otherwise somehow get it to them. I've probably done it about 100 times and to date I haven't yet had a single CO want their log back. Most of the times they're actually very happy that I did it for them and that they can now save themselves a trip. Quote Link to comment

We've found that those who do check their logs, seem to have caches that rarely need maintenance anyway. We've also seen the ones who don't care about much other than the placement (1.5/1.5s mostly), but will feign praise for others doing their maintenance for them. Quote Link to comment
