Oregon 600, locking the screen vs turning off?

Turning it off won't show you where you are, locking the screen shows you where you are, but touching won't effect the screen,(only a warning screen is locked) also the screen on gives you less battery life.

On my Montana, and I assume the Oregon is the same, if you enable battery saving and then lock, the first touch on the screen brings it back to life to show the current position and you only get the "Locked" warning if you press it again.
