+JustinHEMI
Hello all! Picked up an eTrex 20x today, and when I plugged it into my windows 7 PC, it failed to recognize the device, and therefore, I cannot get garmin express or anything else to see the device. My GPSMAP 64s works just fine. Garmin is closed for the day, so I thought I'd try here for any ideas. Thanks! Justin Quote Link to comment
+Viajero Perdido
Can you find a "mass storage mode" somewhere in your Garmin's menus? That's what it was called in their earlier units (where my experience is); turning that on while connected would make the file system show up on the PC. Good luck. Quote Link to comment
+JustinHEMI
Thank you, I did verify that it is selected to "mass storage mode" in the menu. Justin Quote Link to comment
+JustinHEMI
Solved. Found a garmin USB driver download that appears to have done the trick. Justin Quote Link to comment

Justin This is how mine worked: 1) Download Garmin Express to the PC. 2) Connect eTrex20 to PC 3) Open Garmin Express and select Add New Device. 4) The Garmin Express program found the etrex and asked if I wanted to add it. Good luck! Quote Link to comment
+CairnViewers
I have tried installing an updated driver from Garmin for my etrex 20x, I have installed Garmin Express and it recognises the device but when I go on to Geocaching.com to add a cache by finding it on the "Play" and "View Geocaching map" area as suggested on a You Tube tutorial, I get the message "Garmin Plugin NOT detected Download & install". When you try to install you are told the plugin is no longer supported and I have uninstalled Chrome which seemed to be the problem but this has made no difference. I am now running out of ideas and any help would be gratefully received Quote Link to comment

Basically, ALL web browser vendors have stopped or will stop supporting the old NPAPI plug-in model due to security issues with the model itself, which dates back to the Netscape days of web browsing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPAPI#Deprecation Quote Link to comment

+lizbythesea
I am an older technologically challenged cacher. Spent half the day trying to load caches onto my etrex 20. Are you saying this model is now useless for this purpose? Are all Garmins having this problem? My children bought it for my 60th birthday and I would be sad to throw it away. The unit is still very much usable. Instead of using "Send to GPS", you can use pocket queries to get the caches onto your GPS. Quote Link to comment

You can also use the 'GPX File' button instead of the Send to GPS button. That still works without any difficulties. Direct it to save the GPX files to your device/Garmin/GPX folder. If you do that once, it will remember on subsequent downloads. Not hard to learn, and easy to do. Quote Link to comment
