You'll get conflicting views on that. Quote Link to comment

However, passing it on to someone who is not a cacher could create problems. Trackables go missing a lot as it is. Adding in non-cachers and mailing, and it is a recipe for failure. You haven't logged that you picked up the trackable. This is a problem. If you don't properly record the retrieval of the trackable, then things start getting wonky. I strongly urge you to log the cache where you found the trackable, and log that you have picked it up (retrieved) from that cache. Then the trackable's history will be correct. Lots of trackables have missions. You don't need to worry about completing the mission in one go. It's perfectly fine for you to take it to another cache in your regular caching area, and drop it there. okay, I think I've found the cache where you found the trackable. It was not properly logged into that cache, as it is not in the inventory. Layed By 2. Bin Moved Again. http://coord.info/GC58DC6 If that is correct, then you will need to do a "grabbed" log, instead of a "retrieved" log. Before you think about mailing it to someone, please contact the trackable owner first. It's not necessarily a good thing to put items in the post and hope for the best. Mailing Trackables to Another Geocacher There may be occasions when you want to mail a Trackable to a geocacher in another location. Please do not mail any trackable without asking the owner first. Mail services to some places are erratic and/or unreliable. Typically, Trackables should travel from geocache to geocache, or directly from the hands of one geocacher to another. If you have received a Trackable in the mail, you will want to post a "grab it" logtype rather than "retrieve it" logtype, since you're not retrieving it directly from a geocache. The mileage traveled will show the next time you drop it in a geocache. Could you post the public reference number for the trackable in question? B. Quote Link to comment

Second, contact the TO and ask if they'd mind it going through the mail. Are your family members cachers? If not, probably not a good idea. Since it seems to be your first trackable, may be a good idea to simply move it along to another cache, until you get the hang of this side-game of Geocaching. Quote Link to comment
+jellis
We try to find events where cachers are going on vacation or ones who are visiting the area and drop them at the event so those cachers can take them. Edited July 16, 2015 by jellis Quote Link to comment
