+VanillaThunder75
Hello all, Just a quick note - after discovering geocaching 3 weeks ago, for something to do with my 2 boys over the summer (maybe see my previous post), I am 26 down and several more DNF. My question is - and apologies if I'm answering my own question - but if I contact landowners for permission to stash a cache, but received no reply, do I go ahead and hide a cache anyway and plead ignorance? I did contact other NIEA places and after 2 weeks, no reply to a yes or a no. Bottom line, my gut feel says no. But anyone else been in this situation? Cheers. Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
I don't see where no reply would mean yes. You may simply be going to a junk filter if using email. We personally went to the landowners for permission. Edited July 16, 2015 by cerberus1 Quote Link to comment
+Manville Possum
You need permission from the landowner. No reply means no. Quote Link to comment
+VanillaThunder75
Cheers everyone. I've already made apps to see the landowners Quote Link to comment
+Mockingbird559
Lack of a yes response wouldn't mean yes to me. Get the real thing straight from the horses mouth. I made up a picture/story book (called Geobinder) in Microsoft Publisher to show property owners about the game and how it works. Have only used it a couple of times but it has helped. Most of my placed with permission caches are with property owners that I already know and who already had trust in me. I usually start with...Hi Bob...I have something for you that is easy, fun and free. Almost everyone says "I like free". I tell them about the game, show the "geobinder" and lay out what I want to do. I tell then I want them to be able to play the game too, by watching us in our goof. Only been refused twice. For caches on large parcel private property. In both cases, the wife said yes, but the husbands said, "I don't want people messing around in my stuff" (even though the cache would not have been near any "stuff"). No point in pursuing that so I let it go. I also give the property owner a printout of the cache page and logs every so often to keep their interest up. Cache Happy Quote Link to comment

Glad you made an appointment because I was going to say there maybe a new cache in your frontyard and I figured you wouldn't notice it being there. Quote Link to comment
+C+Sgeocouple
I would never go ahead on someone's property without permission. They may not want the "traffic". Or it may cause other residents to feel uncomfortable. (People lurking around) Quote Link to comment
