RosAndEd
The title says it all really. In the seven months I've been geocaching, I've noticed one account has had four different usernames - and what's more it changes back to one of the earlier names between times. I don't know why people do this. I can understand a change of name, but not a change, change back, change again, back to the first one etc etc etc. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment
+Touchstone
Because they can? I see it occasionally, but usually over fairly longer periods of time. I suspect for that category of people, situations or relationships change and the old name isn't relevant to their situation. Just speculating. Quote Link to comment

I suppose it makes it difficult if the CO checks the log against the online log. Quote Link to comment
+on4bam
I haven't seen many namechanges in the 9 years I'm caching. I have seen one near me by a kid who, after a few founds, decided to place a few trads near his home. After the school's summer vacation several caches were archived by a reviewer for not performing maintenance. This kid changed his username when the next summer school holidays arrived and placed a few caches again. Same scenario repeated (no maintenance, archived by reviewer...) After 3 different usernames I guess he's now tired of caching (no activity for the last 2 years). All his caches are now archived. Another one didn't want to be identified (unique username) and changed to something more generic. Quote Link to comment

Are you referring to the name they use on the logs they leave on other people's caches or the name they use on the cache page of a cache they have placed themselves? I've seen the latter used pretty often but it's not really an account name change. It just gives a little often humorous spin to the cache page and sometimes a hint to the find. Quote Link to comment

To the name they sign logs with when they find a cache, and the name used to log online. Quote Link to comment

My frequent name changes (I think I was changing my trailname every couple of days at one point) was a protest against the hand-it-over-on-a-golden-platter "All Geocache Finds" link. Gives me a sense of pseudo-privacy (at least among family/friends/co-workers). Quote Link to comment
+GeoLog81
Because they are not happy with their old one? I was slightly happy with my previous one, but it wasn't actual in the moment I've registered, because it was to be my nick in tourist organization, but it happened not to be the case. And, although very simple, was declared unspellable by German collegues I'm not happy with my current one, but at least it's spellable for anyone (although everyone spell it his own way). And because many are hoping for some much-needed drama. Quote Link to comment
+SamuraiTrapper
Funny, I was just thinking about this very same thing this morning. My name on here is what it is, but when I go out caching, my family shares in the fun with me, so we sign the log Team Curry. I was wondering if this was an accepted practice, or not... I was wondering if this was an accepted practice, or not... That's commonly done. To avoid confusion, you may make a statement like "Signed the log as Team Curry", when logging online. For some Nanos I sign just "ku" as an abbreviation. I resist changing my Geocaching name, but I make up for it by constantly changing my avatar and Forum title. Quote Link to comment

+kunarion
Do you include the umlaut over the u? In order for that to happen, it would have to be one amazing nano. Quote Link to comment
