Kern County Cachers (Official Club Thread)

Thanks to 12robb22, I have decided to offical form the Kern County Cachers geocaching club. This will be our official thread where we can keep track of what is going on and to keep in touch with each other.

Basically, we need to come up with a logo and put it on some hats, buttons, and shirts and wear them with pride. When ever we travel to other locations, we can go and represent the KCC. I would think we might also start organizing some events and some cache trips.

As the winnner of the Redneck Road Race, I most certainly have to form a new race, but that might be for the spring. I have some big shoes to fill. Before then, there will be a Taft Tournament and I got some ideas for it tonight talking to 12robb22.

So, our first item of business is for someone to come up with a logo. Get to it.

Next we will get it put on some swag. I know the owners of Southwest Signs (which was right next to Lengthwise) so we can have things done there unless you guys have a better spot (isn't Hedge a graphics guy?).

Then we will start planning some events. I liked the idea of just having a cache day where we pile into a vehicle or two and go to Lancaster or wherever. That would be fun.

Subscribe to this thread and we can use it to get in touch with each other if we need to.

Welcome to the Kern County Cachers. :)

:) ok, but... El Rojo, if you can find the time, pleas send me and email and tell me how to subscribe and participate. I am very computer literate but I am forum, blog and chat dumb, dumb, dumb.

In the post you just replied in, at the top right hand corner, there is a "options" box. Click on it. Then it will say, "Track this Topic". It will then give you options on how you want to be notified. I picked instant e-mail for all replies.

As far as participating goes, we just figure out what we want to do as we go. I don't think we need officers or anything like that at this time. I think we just need to think of things to do and help each other make it happen.

So who is good with logos?

I'm totally clueless about forums - but here goes. I want to be a KCC (as opposed to a KFC item).

I'm open to setting a date and going on a day trip to cache somewhere around here. If we do that, I'd like to propose that at least one visit be to the Moorpark, Simi Valley, Ventura, Ojai area where my son & family (audiotronic) live - there are hundreds of great caches there. That way they can join us on our adventures and I can do 2 neato things at one time - geocache and see my grandsons!

OK, slow in responding sort of like the way I find caches.

We (BAKO1313 & MRS) are up for a local organization.

I will toss out a logo idea or 2 to be chewed on and spit out.

1. GPSr image w/satellite screen over an outline of Kern county, pulled up from an outline of California.

2. GPSr image over an outline of California w/Kern county outline on the screen.

Maybe it is already in the works.

Wondering if anyone in this group has made plans or is making plans to attend GeoWoodstock VI?

We - BAKO1313 & MRS (Jack & Sherry) are working on going and hope to have Grandsons (and maybe their Mom & Dad) along with us.

Another topic:

How about a social event somewhere after the first of the year to kick off KCC?

Pizza & Pepsi (BEER)?

Tony's on California Ave? Cataldo's at Stockdale and Real? Other ideas?

MRS advised me this morning that Santa has my number, hope she was referring to coordinates.

Merry Christmass to all!!

Whats with the latest round of "Blinky" caches in Bakersfield. Seems like that all we are getting now, what happened to the larger caches?

Are we the only ones who hate these stupid things? I can see using them where there are LOTS of muggles, but thats about it. These things are popping up everywhere in Bako, and many of the places COULD have a larger cache IF the hiders used a little creativity (aka a Hedge hide).

I may just have to get out the old ammo can's and make some new ones.

I'm guessing someone had a great sale on nano magnet containers.

Or perhaps no one wants to trade stuff any more. I have a large cache container out (mailbox) with lots of swag, some from me some from past visitors and all that seems to move through it recently is TBs & coins.

This is what I like about Geocaching: it is what you make of it. If you don't like the Blinky/Blinkie series, don't get them. I don't mind them so much, but that is because I am possessed and will find anything.

Anyone come up with a logo yet?

I think sometime over this two weeks off I have to go around Taft and start setting up the locations for my tournament. My other big challenge is to find out what I am going to do for the next Kern County TB Race.

Tomorrow a few of us are probably going caching and I am going to hit a whole lot of the area caches that I don't have yet.

Merry Christmas Kern County Cachers!

Kern County has a new cacher!

Russell was born on Jan 29 @ 5:25pm, 9lbs 13oz, 21-3/4 inches.

Mom and baby are both home and doing well.

Since he already has a cache named after him....he wanted his own account.

Be on the look out for one "Rusty cache finder" while out on the hunt!

Well, many congratulations to all three of you!! That is so exciting! Is it possible to add pics to these posts? If so, could you give us one of that little squirt or one of all three of you? I'm sending geogram hugs to you two grownups, but a really big one to the newest little geocacher!

There is a photo on Rusty Cache Finder's profile, what a handsome new little cacher!

Congrats on the new mini-cacher!

Hi there,

I'm Wolf Grrl from Central Valley Cachers. I hope you don't mind me posting here but I wanted your input. Let me know. Thanks!

Texas Caching Regions put on a Texas Challenge every year. I hear so many great stories about them. There hasn't been one person that hasn't had a good time. Each year a different region hosts/plans/organizes. It's pretty cool. They will have coins and tshirts made up to sell. They have hunting teams where each region has a team of cachers that will go find the caches at the event. The organizers of the region can not tell their home team where those caches are. There are trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. It's a big competition between the regions. There is a silent auction. There is Camp Little Cachers (I just made the name up) where people volunteer for the day (shifts of course) to have activities and crafts to keep all the little cachers busy so moms and dads don't have to worry about them. There is so much more.

Why not have California do a California Challenge? We would have to decide how to divide the state up and form a committee which I would be more than happy to be a part of. I think it would be a blast and definitely a worthwhile event. Is any one gamed? How can we spread the idea and get how our fellow Californian Cachers feel about the idea? I do not know how to insert hyperlinks into these forums so I just copied and pasted the event page and the forum from Houston.

Share your thoughts, suggestions, opinions so we can get the ball rolling for one next year!

I would be interested in this.

My main problem right now is time. I am so busy at the gun shop it isn't even funny. I was just thinking today on the way home I still need to organize a Taft Tournament and a new TB race. I have a good idea for the Taft Tourny, but still need to work on the TB race.

I am also thinking of stocking some Geocaching supplies at my shop, but they don't give much of a dealer discount.

Is anyone planning on goin to Geowoodstock this year? We just signed up and planned on making it our first out of town trip with the little guy

BAKO1313 & MRS have made arrangements to attend along with the TREASUREHUNTINGHOMIES family.

Flushes previously replied to my posting of the same question.

"Regarding Geowoodstock VI, the Flushes will be there."

I have it on my calendar but have to check a few other things first. Here is the link for those of you who are curious.

Also I have not forgotten my responsiblity to put on the next Kern County TB race. I am just swamped and trying to follow in Hedge's footsteps is not easy.

I am also still committed to running a Taft Tournament too. I need to order some caching supplies with my new dealer account so I will have cool prizes.

I would've thought a caravan to Sacramento for GeoWoodstock would've been fun, but I'm in Florida on business on May 25. We gonna have a hearty Kern Cachers delegation there to represent? D3 and Cappie are doing all they can to be fruitful and multiply our numbers.

Along those lines, Bakersfield Magazine interviewed me about caching yesterday. Looks like one of the annual "How to get out there and do something weerd - like Geocaching!" columns is coming and this will probably stink. Hopefully, any quotes will make me sound like a complete buffoon and we'll keep the trampling newbie hordes to a minimum.

Oops! Or, if I do sound stoopid, maybe that will only bring hordes of the worst out of the woodwork. Bah, you can't win.

ElRojo, I've got some leftover goodies from Backcountry.com for prizes - the ones that came in the mail one day after the Redneck awards. I'll be sure and put 'em up for you to hand out at the event. Or maybe I'll put them in a cache and make you work for 'em. Muahahaahaaa!

RE: Geowoodstock VI. Our group or gaggle of 5, Bako1313 & Mrs along with daughter and 2 grandsons, will be leaving early Fri. morn on the 23rd (I hope) and returning to BFL on the 27th. Will be staying at the Heritage Express in Rocklin. If you see us wandering around lost or not give us a shout out.

I am waiting for a call from a writer from BFL Mag. for a phone interview about Geocaching, but since they interviewed one of the more prolific and proficient local cachers yesterday, perhaps I am waiting in vain.

I thing we are due for a social event. Pizza & Pepsi (Amber Bock) on a Fri. or Sat. evening?

Any takers?

Finally settled and getting back into Geocaching again. Got my roomie completely hooked as well, we decided last night around 6:30 to load up the GPS and do a little night caching. Grabbed 6 and had a great time. Plan on doing some more this weekend as well and hopefully start planting them soon too. We have a lot "open" area in Bakersfield. :)

Anyway, we're in for a pizza event, let's set this up ;):(

He wanted to make sure that Not only you say that you are saying your attending the event on the Normal Event Page , but make sure that you register at. Geowoodstockvi Look at all the different food choices you can pick from. They are going to have so much to do for the kids. One thing that they are going to do is a Ammo Can painting. Then they are going to Auction them off. I am not sure if any of you saw the event on friday night called Friday Night Meet and Greet . Wish I was comming down this weekend. Sorry to see you Hedge will not be making it to the Event. Can someone post here when when the Bakersfield Magazine comes out? I would love to get a copy of it. I will have my sisterinlaw pick me up a copy. Happy Caching. Greg

Stop in to eat and chat about GeoWoodstock VI, caching in general, see who we are, etc, etc, etc.

Ya it's short notice, but, this is my feeble effort to get something going with this KCC thingy.

Maybe I'll have a prize for the First to Find Me and call me the Secret Word. (CrackerJack)

We should be able to make it 5:pm Friday evening, I might have to bring my own beer. With the cords you give I hope there is not a vertical challenge involved. One of the caches I had this week started at the bottom of the mountain 365 feet straight up what a killer with no trails.

Owner of the establishment probably would not be happy if you brought your own beverage and I think the local constabulary take a dim view of parking lot consumption. Vertical challenge? Parking lot is level and it is only one small step up from the lot to the side walk. As we used to say in the day, "No hill, for a STEPPER!"

How about Bako1313 & Mrs. look for the table with a box of crackerjacks on it? Kind of like when you fly into the airport and the limo drivers are holding up a sign... ;)

Very interesting!! :o

I was thinking everone would have to look for us.
