+4 Nouwens
HI all, We got a Garmin GPSMap 62st from Santa this Christmas and have pretty much figured it out but have one question. Is birds eye mapping worth the money? We cache on my iPhone 6 in town but use the GPS when we are in the back country where the cell phone has no service. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+goldsy
I'm sure everyone has their own opinion on this. Topo maps are all I need. I got a free 1 year subscription to birds eye when I bought my 64s. Honestly, I don't really care for it that much. I've found it useless out in the woods. Really the only time I have found it helpful is in urban areas because you can see the buildings, etc right on your GPS screen. Quote Link to comment
+Walts Hunting
I bought it for a year and didn't find it that useful and let it lapse Quote Link to comment
+BCandMsKitty
Check out Google earth for I-phone. Free, and will probably do what you want. We use it on our Android, and I assume it will work the same on an I-phone. Fire it up, wait for it to load and in the settings touch "My Location". Voila! A bird's eye view of your area with a pointer indicating pretty close to where you are standing. Getting to the "my location" tab will probably be different in an I-phone, but on the android, it's where the settings are for 90% of the other apps on the phone. I'm sure you will figure it out. oops I see you said you cache where the phone has no service. Guess google earth is out then. Edited February 15, 2015 by BC & MsKitty Quote Link to comment
