Flying Fox 139
With all the snow we have had here in the northeast. Do people go out in this weather? It's been very cold here with bitterly cold winds. Quote Link to comment
nypackman
I was out Saturday for a few caches. It was cold and windy with snow on the ground more than knee deep but I checked for the snow friendly attribute before I went. I did have to dig out a couple but where else would I rather be. +Gitchee-Gummee
Over knee-deep? I'd start thinkin' about snowshoes at that time. A sport in their own right. We have snowshoe softball games, here. We have lots of ash/rawhide ones, but have gravitated to the newer aluminum ones (less maintenance), the others are destined to be wall-hangings. Recent happenings in the NE suggest you may want a pair. We, on the other-hand, use 'em every winter (Boston ranks third, in the U.S. -- by 60" -- in current snow depth, by the way). Take a guess whose area ranks top...? It's not Buffalo NY, either. Try out a pair, you might like 'em! A ski pole w/o basket makes for easy finding of ammo cans. Make sure that the cache is an ammo can before you start poking for it, though! A snowy winter is a different realm -- one to be enjoyed! Quote Link to comment
nypackman
Snowshoes would have been nice but unfortunately mine weren't in the truck. We use them here in the Adirondacks all the time. Fortunately the caches weren't far from the road. Quote Link to comment
wmpastor
A couple of months ago I found the cache at the base of Whiteface Mt. (Lake Placid, NY). A couple of days ago it was -13°F in that very spot, and -26°F at the summit! Ouch! Quote Link to comment
The red-haired witch
Of course people go out in this weather. Just be dressed properly Some (hundreds of) people will even attend an outdoor event in this weather next weekend http://coord.info/GC4G0YQ At least there will be no mosquitoes Quote Link to comment
