Pup Patrol
I scrolled down a little and didnt see this topic... I'm having a hell of a time finding any cach that is posted as nano... Just how small is nano and any advise on looking for them??? The size of a small button, or the tip of your finger. Probably magnetic, and stuck on something in an inconspicuous manner. (back of a sign, or under a bench, for example) Descriptions and photos: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=75 I forgot to mention that there are 621 pages of threads in this forum alone. The search function can save alot of time scrolling, trying to find a similar topic. B. Edited February 22, 2015 by Pup Patrol Quote Link to comment
+Gill & Tony
The tip of your little finger as far as the base of the nail. Maybe 5mm diameter and 5mm high. Sometimes false nuts and bolts are used and these may be a bit bigger. They are almost always magnetic and often painted to match the surroundings or made rusty if on an old piece of machinery The false nut and bolt types may be screwed loosely into place, so try unscrewing things with your fingers. Look for something which isn't in keeping with the location - too new, slightly off colour or asymmetric - try moving things to see if they come away. Rotate anything which moves - it may be the cache or the cache may be attached to it out of plain sight. Look for a fastener which doesn't seem to hold anything together. Read previous logs and read the hint. Nanos can be frustrating but the find is often worthwhile, especially if it is one you haven't seen before. Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
And if a cache is listed as "Other" it could also be a Nano size cache... Quote Link to comment
+sa55ieca55ie
Thank you , this helps so much!!! I was thinking it was closer to the size of a flash card, now that I know I might go back to the 2 I couldn't find. Quote Link to comment
+Walts Hunting
If you continue to have frustrations with Nanos after you look for one and make use of that most wonderful of buttons "Ignore" and never be bothered by that one again. Quote Link to comment
+Chief301
Nanos are often magnetic, so zone in on anything metallic at GZ (Ground Zero, or the general area where your device brings you). For nanos you'll often have to use your hands as well as your eyes. Feel around on top of, under, behind, and inside any metallic things you find there. If anything moves check it out. Nanos can be frustratingly difficult to find, even for experienced cachers, because there are just SO many places to hide them. The log "sheet" for a nano is really just a tiny little roll of paper, just a few millimeters wide and maybe 6 or 8 inches long. They are sometimes a pain in the butt to remove from the container and get them back in. Consider carrying a pair of pointy tweezers when you go out caching. Some folks prefer a safety pin with the tip bent a little to "hook" the log and extract it from the container. To replace, once you've tightly rolled up the log like you found it, it works better to place the rolled up scroll inside the CAP of the container and screw the container onto the cap instead of vice versa. Also, remember that since the log sheet is so tiny it won't hold a lot of signatures, so be courteous and use an abbreviated version of your caching handle....on nanos I sign C301 instead of Chief301.
