Explorist 210 Hard reset

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've searched but could not find an answer. My Magellan Explorist 210 is now a brick. We were geocaching and she bumped it, now it wont turn on.

Is there anyway to do a hard reset on the thing to get it working again. It looks fine, not totally scratched up like my Garmin eTrex (which has been working like a champ for a decade!).

Yes, I've checked and replaced the batteries. Behind the batteries is a rubber cover with four little holes. Does anyone know what that is for?

How can I hard reset this thing???

I have read where the following has worked for others.

For "hard reset": Hold down GO TO+OUT+POWER at the same time.

Suppose to clear memory, and set all settings as default.

If that dosn't work, one has to wonder what the "bump" broke inside the unit.

Thanks....It didn't work.

I had it for a year and a half, didn't use it much, and it's so clean (no scratches). Compared to the beating I put my Etrex through, this thing is a freakin' lightweight. I also read that Magellan Tech support is not helpful.

If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

I fixed it! I gave it a shot and opened it up. The power goes from the batteries to the circuit board by resting two tiny nubs from the batteries (circled in red) against two metal tabs (pink) on the board. I would think there would be soldered wires.

I lifted the tabs up, and reassembled. It worked, but then not. I lifted the tabs higher (afraid they might break) and slipped a small piece of aluminum foil under the tab to keep it in contact with the nub. Yoila, it's working again.
