Good/bad cache items

LootDrop

Recommended Posts

I have been out of the game for years but I want to get going again.

My favorite thing to do is leave an item someone else will get really excited about. (Better treasure rocks... Pet rocks need not apply)

Obviously I will need some different size items. I have some ideas but want to ask the community...

Outside prohibited items, are there things you (or your kids) are sick of seeing (ex. Oh wow toooo many stickers)?

Are geocaching.com items saturated or would you love to find one?

Anything you have seen that just holds zero interest?

Thanks

If you want to be different then don't leave those rubber bracelets or cute erasers. I see a lot of those and they are often dirty and moldy. Also try not to leave broken toys or toys that come have many parts (unless you put it in a baggie. They usually just fall apart in the cache and look broken. Whatever you leave will be more interesting if you put it in a little baggie and apply a sticker with your trail name on it. See my signature below for more swag ideas.

I gave up on swag a long time ago because everyone just likes to complain about it and the complaints are so mean-spirited and contradictory.

Friendly geocacher: Oh, I love collecting those rubber bracelets so I will buy some to use as swag.

Naysayer: Rubber bracelets are junk.

Friendly geocacher: Toys are great for kids. My kids love finding little toys in a cache.

Naysayer: Toys are awful useless junk and swag should be for adults.

Friendly geocacher: I leave unique or homemade items that you don't see at the store.

Naysayer: Swag should be brand new stuff in the package.

Okay, message received swag-loving geocachers. It is not worth participating in that aspect of the game when it results in nothing but complaints and insults.

Curious, why not use the same account (or at least the date joined with a name change) you had earlier?

As you can already see, folks either trade or not anymore.

Ammo cans filled with toys are rare these days.

Most of our caches are put n take anymore. Completely empty when we do OM.

If you intend to start again by trading (it'll be tough simply finding caches large enough :D ) just put in whatever you like to find and don't worry so much what others may think of it. :)

I always enjoy finding mcdonalds toys or the yolks of kinder eggs! I'm getting a little too old to waltz into mcdonalds and order a happy meal ;P

Keyrings are also really nice things to find! I personally love badges in caches.

There's too many cheap 'party favours' in caches though, rubbers or hand clappers, they're boring and unoriginal and just not too fun to come across. Perhaps more fun for a younger child dragged along with the family :P

I'm ordering some pokemon figures off ebay, you can get a bulk pack of 24 or something for £2.50 and they're decent quality, at least decent enough to be an exciting find in a cache (perhaps more for pokemon fans like me hehe)

We're totally new to this, but for what it's worth: I just found a lot of great 'back to school' deals today at Meijer if there's one in your area! They had things like cute (for the kids) erasers and little 'keepsake boxes' that were Barbie or Ninja Turtles (and only about 2 1/2 inches big) for between 50-60 cents each! Wow! They also had some mini note pads for 59 cents. So I thought I got some great deals for swag. Excited to get started -- our teenage son is special needs but we are hoping this will be a fun way to get exercise since 'just going for a walk' really disgusts him! So hurry out to your nearest store this weekend and see what back to school goodies are priced to sell!
