Deutschland souvenir

Recommended Posts

I was just checking out my 3 million caches souvenir when I noticed that I had another new souvenir - one for Germany. I was caching in Germany last year and got 3 Bundeslander souvenirs, but I thought Germany was like USA, Canada and Australia - souvenirs for states but not for the actual country.

Has this changed?

Hi Gill & Tony,

thanks for the heads-up on the Souvenir, it must be new. I have been Caching in Germany since 2007 and only knew of the Bundesländer Souvenirs. Dieölfe and I just looked at the Germany Souvenir and we know the town but cant place a name to it at the moment. There is a Cache beside the Tower.

That is what we thought but the buildings around the Tower do not fit. The tall building on the right of the tower with the siren on top is wrong.

Scroll down the wiki page to the very bottom. The image on the left hand side is the mentioned tower. rolleyes.gif

Because of this post I checked my souvenirs and there is now also a "Germany" one and not only the separate Bundeslander souvenirs. It must be "recent" or at least added in the last few months as I never saw it before.

It was added in conjunction with the Döner's Tag souvenir on 4/13/2017.

Any idea what the criteria is for obtaining the Germany souvenir? When the Doners Tag souvenir was announce it seemed to be part of a promotion which focused on different countries and the Donerstag event/souvenirs are for Germany. I've got two of the Bundeslander souvenirs for finding caches in Hamburg and Hessen but didn't get the Germany souvenir. It sounds like it is being awarded for attending a Donerstag event even for those that have never been to Germany.

I didn't attend any event and got the souvenir. I do have 3 Bundeslander but have not found a cache in Germany since 2013.

I just looked again and see that I've got the Deutschland souvenir as well, acquired on the same date as the first Bundeslander souvenir I got. I have another Bundeslander souvenir acquired in 2013. Does anyone have it and has not found a cache in Germany (e.g. has only attended a Donerstag event?) If so, it would seem that GS created the Deutschland souvenir and awarded it to those that have logged a find or attended on a cache in Germany *or* attended a Donerstag event.

Sneaky. Just noticed it myself.

Interestingly, both it and my Hessen souvenir now claim to have been awarded on 3 March 2007, even though our first cache finds were in Hessen on 4 March 2007. And now that I look, it appears most, but not all, of my country souvenirs have been backdated by a day. I wonder why this is.

Checked all of mine and all have the correct date.

My Hessen and Deutschland souvenirs both have the same date as well. I've got one for Hamburg too.

I looked over a few of my country souvenirs and most have a date backdated a few but there are a few exceptions. My souvenirs for Mexico and Turkey have the same date as my first find in the country. I checked a few US state souvenirs and they're backdated as well.

I am still wondering if anyone has the Deutschland souvenir after logging a Donerstag event but has not actually found a cache in Germany. Can anyone from HQ clarify why the Deutschland souvenir has been released and it's criteria?

No. I do not have a Deutschland souvenir.

Assuming you got the Donerstag souvenir that answers my questions as well. I wonder if we'll see a country souvenir for the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Ireland as well or if the Deutschland souvenir was created because the first "where in the world is Signal" focus country is Germany. Anyone seen anything about where the next focus country will be?

I don't have anything concrete, but this year is Canada's sesquicentennial (150th birthday), so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a souvenir for Canada Day: July 1. I don't know if there might be something in a different country before then.

Mystery solved:

Dönerstag celebrations from around the world

Last week, nearly 40,000 geocachers around the world gathered to celebrate the unique geocaching holiday of Dönerstag. Events included feasts of döner kebab, cooking sausages over an open fire, a Signal the Frog® appearance, and of course, earning the Dönerstag souvenir!

Many of you, nearly 900,000 in fact, also earned the new Germany country souvenir!

A Canada country souvenir would be great, and I'm not saying that only because I would get one. If only we could check Signal's travel schedule to see if he's going to Canada in 9.5 weeks.

I may be going to Montreal in September and since the route I'd take goes through Ontario I could get two provinces plus a Canada souvenir. If there is a similar food based souvenir like Donerstag, would the Canada souvenir be about poutine?

If I got to Canada in 9.5 weeks will I get to see Kim Bassinger?

That would seem appropriate. Conveniently, even way out here on the West Coast, there's a poutine shop about a block away from the brick-and-mortar caching store in town.

Makes sense. Of course, there could be a promotion with Tim Horton's. Or maybe a throwback souvenir based on beer and back bacon...

I'm still confused about the mentioned Deutschland souvenir. I visited all german Bundesländer ( finished that in 2015 already) and organised and visited a Dönerstag event. While I did get the souvenirfor the event, the Deutschland souvenir is a no show. Why is that?

After the Donerstag events, Geocaching.com announced that there is now a country souvenir for Germany, as well as the state(?) souvenirs that already existed. So if you've found any cache in Germany before, you get the Deutschland souvenir

Heh. Given the hints in today's newsletter, I guess we'll soon find out what Signal will be doing in the Great White North. Perhaps a Victoria Day souvenir? If only I could get to Lakeside Park to make a find on the 24th of May...

...wait, how is there not a Rush tribute cache here? BLASPHEMY

I don't think it will be on Victoria Day. That would give people less than a week to get an Event organized and submitted for that day (assuming we knew for sure today that it was going to be on that day; they haven't even officially announced it yet).

I assumed all along that it would be Saturday July 1st, which is Canada Day and the actual anniversary of confederation. Assuming it gets officially announced soon, this would give people 1.5-2 months of lead-time. This does seem like a lot of lead-time, but I can't think of a logical date in June.

Side note: Despite it being referred to as the "May Two-Four" weekend in some parts of Canada, Victoria Day doesn't always fall on May 24th. This year it's May 22nd. We just call it the "May Long Weekend" out here on the west coast to avoid confusion.

Ah yes, I see it now. But I needed to refresh my souvenirs tab page first before I got to see it. It looks exactly like the Bundesländer souvenirs, except with no state name mentioned . . .

Fair enough. I just go by Geddy Lee's high pitched reference. (Tried watching the new series on Victoria but decided I didn't need another upstairs downstairs drama in my life.)

The images for the Bundesländer souvenirs and Deutschland souvenirs you see you your souvenirs tab are just the "thumbnail" images. If you click on the image you'll see the actual souvenir artwork. Each of the Bundesländer souvenirs as well as the Deutschland souvenir are unique.
