+Optimist on the run
How do I do strike-through text in this new markdown language (the equivalent of the old <s>text</s> in html)? According to Wikipedia it should be ~~text~~, but that doesn't seem to work. For example see this log. Quote Link to comment

I understood that this was supposed to be an adequate replacement for html. Quote Link to comment
+sloth96
Well, I agree that I would have have liked the ~~~strikethrough~~~ rendered on the site. However as the markdown equivalents are supposed to look good even when not rendered, why not just use it? Quote Link to comment

But it just makes it look as though I was emphasising it, rather than striking-it out. Quote Link to comment
HiddenGnome
Strike-through is not officially supported in Markdown, according to the original specifications which is what our implementation is originally based on. I'm not saying there aren't valid use-cases, only that it is not currently supported. If you want to read more about it from the author of the spec: http://daringfireball.net/linked/2015/11/05/markdown-strikethrough-slack Quote Link to comment
cezanne
If you want to read more about it from the author of the spec: http://daringfireball.net/linked/2015/11/05/markdown-strikethrough-slack You would not have such problems if you introduced an option to allow users to choose between Markdown and plain text in their logs (that option would be magnificent anyway and it also would allow to get rid of the editor and the second text window for those who want to write a plain text log). You offer this type of choice also for cache listings (html vs plain text). Edited February 11, 2016 by cezanne Quote Link to comment

Have you read the text which is linked above? One could more easily allow a strikethrough option in GS's markdown implementation when there is no danger that something which is not intended as markdown strikethrough because it's plaintext does not get interpreted as strikethrough. Clear now? Also several of the restrictions of the implemented Markdown that got established over the last couple of days would not have been necessary if there existed a switch for Markdown.
