Routable Geocaching Maps?

I just replaced by 60Cx (old card not working) with a 600 and am having trouble finding routable maps to use when Geocaching. I ran OSM routable but when I install in the 600 and try to go to a geocache (GO) is says "Maps do not have routable roads in this area." I'd like to avoid buying the maps for $100 so am looking for free map. I was under the impression that I'd have not problem finding free routable maps for geocaching but that's turning out to be not true for me. Help?

When you want something for free, sometimes you get what you pay for.

 

That said, where are you trying to get your maps? I've not had issues getting routable maps from garmin.openstreetmap.nl -- had good experience getting routing for Ireland, Malta, and South Korea. Lot of steps to go through unless they've changed the interface, but at the end of the day it worked nicely.

I've used many OSM maps covering several continents over the years. All of them were/are routable. As hzoi said, garmin.openstreetmap.nl is a good source.

I got OSM routable covering various western state and none were routable. Maybe it's a setting in my Garmin 600 but so far no luck with OSM states maps. I'll see what I can find in Basecamp. It's getting very frustrating to not be able to find routable geocache maps for NV, ID, OR, WA.

OSM is a work in progress, but for routing I've found it's gotten good enough to be useful - in my area.

 

As an experiment, fire up the BRouter web interface (googlable) and see if you can get sensible routes in your area. It uses the OSM database. (The name means "bike router"; I use it within Locus.)

Just to double check, the OSM maps are installed and enabled, correct?

If you can tell us where you got the map from, we might be able to provide more guidance. It could be that the source you used doesn't actually provide routable maps.

You could take a look at openmtbmap.org, it provides worldwide routable maps. Alternatively you could use freizeitkarte-osm.de. Both offer free, routable maps and are regularly updated.
