Magellan Explorist GC

I recently purchased a new Latitude notebook with the I7 processor running Windows 8.1. I downloaded the Magellan PC communicator and use Internet Explorer. However, when I plug in the GPSr and connect it with my PC it just shows up as Drive D and the communicator doesn't recognize it as the Magellan Explorist GC. My other laptop uses Windows 10 and I can download the caches & information successfully so I think I did everything correctly. Any suggestions?

There may be workarounds with the communicator, but there are many threads documenting problems with it for both Garmin and Magellan. If your computer recognizes the gpsr as drive D:, there really is no problem. Simply copy an individual file to the "geocaches" folder on your unit using the GPX button on the cache page. Its the same process that the communicator uses - the difference being that you save the file to a particular location rather than letting the communicator do it for you. You can also copy larger number of caches by using a pocket query (or GPX files created through other cache managers) and transferring the gpx files to the Magellan.

I should have added to my post that when I click to open the Drive D I get a window that indicates there is no disc in the drive. It does not show up as a drive having files.
