Additional waypoints at GZ break map on cache listing

I only just noticed this recently, but it may have started when the new cache submission form was rolled out.

For caches where an additional waypoint has the same coordinates as the cache's posted coordinates, the mini-map below the description is broken. The map can't be zoomed or panned, the background is grey, and the only visible symbol is that of the waypoint. Here are a couple of examples: GC58VY6 and GC57WH6.

On a related note, this problem wouldn't have as much impact if the submission form didn't create so many useless waypoints. For example, if a puzzle final is at the posted coordinates (like with challenges), a "Final" waypoint is unnecessary and undesired. I'd much prefer the default to be to not create these waypoints unless specifically created by the user. Can the logic behind the creation of these waypoints be looked at at the same time? More and more often I find myself attempting to select a cache on the map of my GPSr and finding a waypoint sitting right on top of it.

I'm going to have to bump this, because the problem still exists. See here and here for fresh examples, though my original ones are still valid too.

I've also learned today that a local reviewer is requiring "Final Location" waypoints for puzzle caches where the cache is at the posted coordinates, such as challenge caches. They refused to publish a local cacher's challenge caches unless these waypoints were in place, even though they serve no useful purpose for such caches.

Even if the map bug gets fixed, we'll still be left with waypoints sitting on top of caches on our GPSrs, which both get in the way and take up unnecessary memory space. Can you please revisit the protocol surrounding these additional waypoints, both in the CSP and in the guidance provided to reviewers? The current system simply doesn't work. If a multi, puzzle, LBH, etc. is hidden at the posted coordinates, "Final Location" waypoints should not be automatically created by the CSP and reviewers should not be requiring them.

Hmm, I use the Geocaching Map Enhancements add-on (on Frirefox) and I DON'T see the issue you describe on the map, I see the regular map with the cache icon (blue ?), there is no icon for the waypoint, and zooming works fine. However when I disable Greasemonkey, & therefore GME, I see the problem exactly as you describe.

Just adding the extra info for whoever investigates this (if anyone).

They do, actually. As explained to me by my local reviewer, they assist in the enforcement of the 161m-separation guidelines; published coords of unknown caches aren't subjected to that restriction, but the final location most definitely is.

The requirement is perfectly reasonable. Note, however, there's no reason for the waypoint to be visible; making them hidden satisfies the requirement for housekeeping purposes, while not polluting the map or your GPS...

(If the reviewer is requiring visible waypoints, on the other hand, then I would be disputing that requirement.)

I confirm this bug, it's a long lasting one. Maps on provided links are blind and inactive, cannot move it or zoom in/out. The screenshot is for GC5G856.

Odd, I'm able to click on all caches on the map you linked to, zoom in/out and move about just fine.

- Guess I don't understand the problem.

Win 7, IE9

Then I suspect you're looking at the wrong map, this problem is on the embedded map on the cache page (to the right of the "Find other caches like this" etc links) and that map only shows the one cache so there are no other caches to click on.

You're right (I guess). Same map, but I was clicking on view larger map.
