Travel bug not moving

What can I do if I placed my bug a month ago and it has not moved? what do I need to do to remove it from the cache?

There's only been one other person to that cache since you dropped the tb.

1.) You could be patient and see if someone eventually comes along and retrieves it.

2.) You could return to the cache, retrieve the tb, and post a "write note" log to say that you have removed the tb.

You would need to post a "retrieved" log just like any other trackable to remove it from the cache's inventory.

If the tb isn't there, then someone has picked it up and not logged it properly.

Citing the names of trackables in your logs is a big help sometimes. "Took a trackable, left a trackable" is rather vague. When a cache has more trackables than just one in its inventory, it's nice to know exactly which trackables have been dropped and retrieved.

I can see being concerned, after realizing no one else has found the cache since a newbie with one find , but a month isn't that long.

We find trackables in "5" hides that have been there for a year or better.

- Not sure what the person's thinking putting 'em in there...

Guess if it's really bothering you, a visit to the cache isn't too odd.

Remember that you'll still need to properly log it again in your possession if still there.

I agree with Pup Patrol, stating which trackables helps a lot when logging gets messed up, or trying to track one down. :)

Thank you for the info. Stil learning.

You could try travel bug rescue.com. I've rescued a number of travel bugs and have had some of my own rescued. Worth a try.

Is that tb-rescue.com? That's the only site that came up in my search.

Would this be an appropriate rescue mission? One of my TBs was placed in a cache (in a State Park that apparently gets a lot of tourist visitation) in March. The cache has had 37 finds since then; the TB has not been Retrieved, has no Discovered logs, and has not been reported as not there. I kinda think it was taken by one of the many finders with only single-digit finds.

Yes that's the site. Sounds like your Travel Bug is missing. You could put in a rescue request to have someone actually verify that is not in the cache but from what you've written is sounds like it was picked up and not logged. You can mark it as missing but remember all than means is that you are not sure exactly where it is right now but you know it's not where it says it is. It could turn up tomorrow. Marking it missing dosn't stop someone from logging it and moving it along. Good luck.

Remember that the free Geocaching app for iOS does NOT have any way to log or update a trackable. It may be that some (most? any?) of the visitors to the cache had no way to log the trackable, so they just didn't take it. Or they did take it, went home and entered it in their computer, but now have no way to log the drop. Or dropped it, but can't remember which one they dropped it in so that they can update things when they get home!!

I guess really, you could hope that the next person that found it wasn't using the same free, but official, app. If they were they may have picked it up, thinking they would log it when they returned home. Then instead dropped it in another cache, writing a small note about it in their phone, but forgot to ever log in and update it on geocaching.com.

Probably won't happen as often once they have trackables as part of the free iOS app. In the meantime, I guess good luck.

Assuming it's still there, you can either go get it, and put it in another cache, or sit back and wait.

TB-rescue.com is a nice idea, but I have some serious doubts if it's really that effective.

From my own experience I've rescued (or verified missing) 25 Travel Bugs and has successfully used the site on 6 of my own travel bugs. I've had many requests ignored but hey, it's worth a shot.
