Anybody have any reviews on Cachly for a casual user? Was geocaching with a buddy of mine last weekend and he doesn't go out that often, but likes to go out with me whenever I visit... but he couldn't do anything because of the new app and he wasn't a premium member. Because of how he doesn't cache often, pointless for him to become a premium member at that point, but he does like doing the occasional one here and there and kind of left a dark cloud on our trip last weekend when he couldn't do anything. I'm trying to find something for him so he can keep caching!

Cachly or any third party partner will have some restrictions on what a basic member could have access to such as 3 caches per day. I feel Cachly is an excellent app but it might not overcome some frustrations basic members will experience as it's not the client app but the restrictions enforced upon them. There might be ways for you to work with your friend to provide some info that could be used offline in Cachly but I'm not totally sure. Maybe a more general question would be to get input from basic members on how they optimize their approach.

So... you don't share your GPSr? :anibad:

Is he OK with using the web site in Safari? The web site allows viewing caches with no daily limit nor D/T limit, but of course he can't open PMO. Load the App "Commander Compass" for navigation.

Open a cache page, read all about it, then go to the cache location using driving directions or whatever. Then tap "GPX File" and open it in Commander Compass. Go find the cache.

Or give him coords to any cache or waypoint to enter into Commander Compass. And that's not the only "compass" GPS App that works with the web site.

We just switched from android to iphones and did a similar search. We ended up buying Cachly and it works quite nicely. It has everything the free app has plus a few more bells and whistles. You mentioned free, but I think Cachly is worth the $5. (we also have a premium membership, so I'm not sure what features don't work if you are a free member).

Some of the apps (looking4cache and GeoBucket) have free versions to try. Cachly seems to be the up and coming app these days and the developer is very responsive. Up until recently I would have recommended Geosphere since it has features that go beyond any app I have tried, but unless the developer updates it, it may not work with the next major iOS update. I will be keeping some devices at the current iOS so that I can continue to use it (it's that good) but I would not invest in it until or unless there is an update.

Any of the API apps work best with premium membership, but they provide basic members more options than the Groundspeak app,

Im sooo confused. I just use the map provided with the app. Its done just fine for me so far? Is that because I'm urban bound? ( mom with little time or opportunity to go far afield).

Ok...ill admit something. Until a couple of days ago i was using what i thought was the official app, but wasnt. Must be a competitor i guess . Now im using the proper one...

But both simply show gps info enabling me to find a cache. Ive never thought to myself...gee..if only i had a proper gps.
