Can a eTrex 10 be a Time-Motion Stopwatch?

Recommended Posts

I want to use my eTrex 10 as a Time-Motion stopwatch. By that I mean:

1. I set up something like a Compass page with data fields such as Speed, Elevation, Trip Odometer, Total Time.

2. In addition, on that page is a button called Start.

3. When I press Start, Trip Odometer and Total Time are reset to zero and begin measuring.

4. When Start is pressed it either changes to Stop, or there is another button called Stop.

5. When I reach my destination, I press Stop and get readings for distance travelled and total time.

To put it simply, can my eTrex record time and distance just as if it was a stopwatch?

Yes, it will, but not in the simple way you are asking. There is a 'Trip Computer' which will record your track, moving time, fastest speed, average speed, elevation changes, etc. You can't start and stop it like a stopwatch but you can reset all fields when you begin and monitor your progress during and at the end of your run. Add the free Basecamp software and you can download the track and get a graphical display of your track, plus a graph of your elevation changes.

Thanks for the responses. Trip Computer sounded interesting so I went looking for it. Wasn't there. Must have been deleted at some stage, but I eventually found out how to get it back. It's pretty close to what I want, but there's no Start button as John CNA suggested. You have to go through several keystrokes to Reset when you're ready to go. Other that, it's what I was looking for, so thanks.

Mineral2: Yes, there is a Stopwatch, a type of Lap Logger, which logs time and distance but no other options. It's okay, but for a certain application I wanted to see other parameters as well.

The stopwatch also records a track while it is running. From the track you can get all of the stats you are looking for. On my Oregons, the stopwatch page also displays distance. But you can customize the trip computer and simply reset it (and the track) at the beginning of your trip (and save the track at the end.)
