etrex20 'reset both' doesn't always take?

Recommended Posts

just checking to see if anyone else has a similar problem: when I start a new trip on my etrex20, I usually 'reset both' track data and numeric data so I get a fresh track and numbers, but, every few times, the 'reset both' reset them only for a moment, then the previous trip comes right back in and is lumped in with my new numbers. if I notice right away, I can reset again, but if I assume it worked the first time but it didn't, sometimes I'll have walked 500m only to find that it now says 14.5km total because it resurrected my previous 14km trip's numbers. I'm sure there's no fix but wondering if I'm alone with this. have taken to resetting 'both' twice or thrice every time I start as a habit, but it's still weird.

thanks,

Even when you have a signal, the GPS drops a track point at your last known location, so the distance between the last location and your current becomes part of your new trip. I think that was fixed in the latest firmware update. But either way, it's a good idea to take a few steps after getting the satellite lock and then clear the track and trip computer.

I have had this happen if I reset the track/data too soon after arriving at a new location and powering up. It sometimes hangs on to the last location and does not delete the last previous point or points which can be far away.

I usually power up as the first thing upon arriving at a new location. By the time I collect my things, put on my backpack and get ready to hike off, it has had satellite lock for a few minutes in the new location and has recorded several new track points at the new location already. A reset now will not have any of the old points left in it.
