Geocoin tracking problem

I picked up a coin (Ladybird) from a cache awhile back (Brooklyn's First and Only), logged it as retrieved, then dropped it into another cache (Got A Package?) and logged it as dropped off. The one I picked up From "Brooklyn's First" was not the same one listed in the inventory (Black Cat) for that cache. I assumed that just meant that the one I picked up (Ladybird) wasn't logged by the person who placed it, while somebody else had picked up and failed to log the one that was listed in the inventory (Black Cat). But someone recently retrieved Black Cat from the cache I placed Ladybird in. I suppose it's possible that it's a coincidence that they both ended up in the same cache by 2 separate people but it seems unlikely. Is it possible the coin had 2 tracking numbers on it?

It is hard to follow your steps when you didn't log at least one of the caches you visited. Your logs show you dropped a trackable at Got a Package ... but you only logged dropping a TB, not even a 'found it' for that cache. (?) :)

Just a guess, but many cachers (unfortunately) cannot (or do not) log finds and/or trackables correctly and often not when the action is done. As a CO of over 200 hides, I see many times where a trackable is retrieved from a cache I own and I didn't even know it was there because the cacher dropping it hadn't completely their logging yet.

As much as we would like all cachers to correctly log their finds and trackables ... it is NOT going to happen. As much as you did not log your Got a Package find, some cacher appears to have been to the Brooklyn's cache, retrieved the coin and moved it to Got a Package, without ever logging anything.

I would suggest that the 'Black Cat' coin is one in the same.

I logged that I "found it" when I originally found the cache. I went back to drop the coin a couple months after that which is why I wrote a note rather than logging it again as "found". I am pretty new to this though so if that's not the right way to do it let me know.

My bad ... I didn't look back far enough to see that you had logged the 'Package' find 2 months earlier.

You did it right.

Since Brooklyn and Package caches are fairly close together, I would still think that the Black Cat coin is the same one that went cache to cache without ever being logged. Because you live or cache close to both of the caches, it's no surprise you might notice 'what' happened, you're just not sure 'why'. :)

Looks like a simple explanation of the same coin moving into and out of caches without correct logging. But it appears to be the same coin.
