Oh no!Another Garmin Extrex10 newbie!

Hi all I'm loading caches on behalf of a friend using my account. Then I realised this won't work because when she logs them as found it will be as me... If you see what I mean. So I want to delete these, log into her account and start again. But how do I delete them without pressing 'found '? Hoping you can help. Many thanks.

I don't quite get what you mean.

You load a cache into the eTrex 10 for your friend to use.

You log into your account, connect the eTrex 10, then use "Send to GPS".

Am I correct so far?

"when she logs them as found it will be as me"

This is where you lost me. Do you mean pressing "found it" on the eTrex 10, or logging it as found on the website?

If it is on the eTrex 10, that doesn't change the status online.

If it is on the website, she should be logged into her account when logging it as found.

I don't see the problem here. If I'm wrong, can you rephrase the question?

No you are not wrong Chrysalides. But to put it a others way ....I've just bought my friend a premier membership so want to delete the ones I loaded before she was a premier member. It's just the general deleting thing I want to get to grips with. Thanks also to Sussamb but I don't know how to access the GPX folder?

To access the GPX folder:

Plug the unit into the computer;

If a PC, access "Computer" from the Start Menu;

The Garmin should show as an auxiliary drive -- it may even be named "Garmin";

Open that "Garmin" drive --

a] if loaded to the device proper, you should be able the see a folder ...Garmin/GPX/

b] if loaded to a card, you need to access the card in similar fashion looking for the same folder;

Delete files within that display a .gpx extension... if there are .loc files (Non-PM files), delete those also... no others.

When done, right-click the mouse on the "Garmin" drive and select Eject -- the computer should tell you it is then OK to remove the device.

Done.

Note: if your friend has used the unit before Premium Membership, your loading PM files do her no good anyway. Because there are already .loc files in the unit, any .gpx files will revert to .loc status anyway.

All of those files loaded prior to PM status must be deleted or she will never see the full benefit of "paperless" caching -- hint, previous logs, descriptions will not show.

You can kill two birds with one stone, here.

Do you mean by going to My Computer and doing it that way? I can as how to do that. Just thought there might be a simpler way.

Sorry didn't see you last post before I posted mine. Looks like I was on the right track though. Many thanks for the info, your time and patience.

Yes, it used to be easier...

The previous generation of Garmin units allowed for deleting individual caches in a stand-alone fashion.

Due to technological "advances"(?), that is no longer possible.

Previous generation allows deletion of individual waypoints. Then Garmin introduced a geocache which is not just a waypoint, for the paperless units. You get lots more details (if you're a premium member) but you lose the ability to delete them individually. That's Garmin. Two steps forward, one step back :)

I can infer how they implemented geocaches as GPX files, so I'm not surprised at the limitations. And I'd rather live with the limitations than, say, require a special application to load caches into the GPSr.
