walkerdubai
Dear all I have a question about the file syntax of geocaches (GPX files) that are stored on the GPS. I have downloaded GPX files from Geochecker (when doing some puzzles and checking the validity of the cache) and manually copied them to my GPS. However the GPS does not read them, either as a waypoint or a geocache. But i can see them when the GPS is connected to Basecamp. If I transfer geocaches via the web interface on Geocaching.com ("send to GPS") then I can see the Geocache on the GPS. This leads me to believe that the GPX file (which i can open/edit in Notepad) needs to have some specific syntax or contain some specific information to be seen by the GPS. Is this correct? If so what? If not then what am I doing wrong with the manual copy thing. Thanks in advance PS Using a Montana 650 and Oregon 550. I am not a Premium Member so cant download GPX from Geocaching.com Quote Link to comment
+Red90
Where are you putting them on the GPS? To be seen as a cache on the unit, the file must include specific attributes. It has been awhile since I looked at this. I believe the <name></name> needs to only include the GC code. It may also need the <Groundspeak:cache id=""> with an integer number in the quotes. We researched all this ten years ago when Garmin brought out cache capable units and I'm sure that discussion is on these forums somewhere. Quote Link to comment

+Red90
The Colorado was the first paperless Garmin GPS, which came out at the beginning of 2008. Quote Link to comment
