Returning to the fold!

That,s the question! I did have Garmin Etrexx previously.Now returning to geocaching,my mobile needs replacing.So the question is an Iphone and download app or buy a dedicated Gps!

any advice will be gratefully received!

If you are already planning on a new phone I'd try the app first. Cache with the app for awhile and shop around for a GPS for a later purchase.

Depends on what sort of caching you are planning to do!

 

A days caching in the middle of nowhere - GPS

Caching 'on the fly' in the city - Phone.

Do you no longer have the etrex, or do you just feel that it's no longer sufficient for geocaching, for some reason.

My GPS died and don't have the money to replace it. So I DLed the Geocaching.com app and use my iPhone. It works well except for BATTERY LIFE. So while not my ideal choice, it will do until I get a job or win the lottery.

if ya go to radioshack you can get a portable phone charger/external battery for $20 or less.. I use my iphone and charge my phone between caches.. when I go on long hike to look for several caches carry the back up charger in pocket.. keep phone charge until your done My link Edited August 21, 2014 by greasy121

Forget the iPhone. They're overpriced. Go for an Android.

Bought a Garmin Dakota 10.Now having problems putting free maps on it! i think I have downloaded an OSM map into 'custom maps' folder as per various directions but cannot get GPS to use it! Any advice again gratefully received.

 

PS Sold etrex some time ago
