My family and I just started last month, and are having a blast. We spend the weekends hitting as many spots as we can find. Yesterday we went up to a local look out spot to pick up what sound like a nice park and grab. My daughter noticed first how busy for a small spot it was. Several empty cars were parked around us. I noticed a young men dressed extremely well for just stopping to enjoy the view walk past us. We found the cache but had trouble getting the log out, so we went back up to the car for tweezers. An older gentleman was parked beside us and sat staring at us. The well dressed young man walked back and stood in front of his car. We signed the log and replaced the cache. At this time my daughter pointed out it was hard to be stealthy because both gentlemen for watching us. As we got back to the car, the older gentleman had his door open, and well I leave out what he was doing. We left, and didn't look back. Talking with friends that spot is apparently known for that sort of thing. My question is should I post something in the log so others know that this at least is not a kid friendly spot?

Am I missing something? People where watching you so it's not kid friendly? Geocachers get a lot of strange looks, so if that's the only issue I wouldn't bother. If it's something like a well known drug location then mention it....

And honestly it's up to the parents to decide what's good for their kids, not other people.

I think you missed this part: "As we got back to the car, the older gentleman had his door open, and well I leave out what he was doing. "

I would say something in the logs. I for one would like to be more fully informed. That way I would drive past if the area looked occupied.

Yes, if something makes you uncomfortable -- for example, seeing activity that might be illegal -- it's fine to mention it in the log, just as you would talk about the things you liked about a cache. But when you write your log, keep in mind that your experience might not have been typical, your sensibilities might be different than others, and, for that matter, you might have been imagining something that wasn't really there. What I've seen is that in areas where there's a real problem, over time the comments from various seekers start to stack up to paint an accurate picture.

Although in this case, some of what you're saying suggests there's a problem that goes beyond geocaching, and a geocaching log isn't going to fix that.

It sounds to me like this location is a rendezvous spot for illicit activity of an amorous nature. The CO may or may not have been aware of this when the cache was hidden, or perhaps the activity started some time after the cache was hidden. In either case it sounds like this park or whatever it is is not particularly kid friendly because of what goes on there.

If it seems like this sort of activity is common here, and if it were me, I'd post a NA log explaining my concerns and let the reviewer and the CO decide.

Surprising how many Pickle Parks I've found caches in... Don't know that I'd call it 'illicit', as long as it's not in public... (Okay. I've seen some stuff that should not occur in public. Sometimes it's just the time of day. Warning: Central Park High Point is not a great spot for kids on Sunday mornings...)

It sounds as though the spot in which you found the cache is not an appropriate place to bring kids (at whatever time you were there.) It would not be a bad idea to mention that in your log. Perhaps the CO did not realize what happens there at some times. Should the cache be archived? Probably not. I mentioned to my reviewer that I thought that a cache named "Slow Poke Turtle" in the parking lot of a porn store where at least one finder mentioned people doing inappropriate things in the parking lot was not family friendly. I was told that such a cache was acceptable. So, "not child friendly" does not mean inacceptable. But it would not hurt to mention in your log that it is not child friendly.

Thank you so much for the advice. I am still new to this and just didn't want to upset someone by recommending not bringing children or coming early in the morning for this cache. Mentioning my tale to a couple of friends, got me more stories of horror from that spot. Apparently it is a known to be a hang out for male prostitutes.
