+Sim454
Hi 2 questions please. Do I have to leave a comment for every cache I find to allow me to upload it to my profile? What does the CLEAR ALL FIELD NOTES and BULK DELETE buttons actually do? Thanks Si Quote Link to comment
+T.D.M.22
Yes you have to leave a comment. People take time out of their day, and spend money to put out caches, so it really isn't that big of a request to at least say thanks for putting out this cache, if not a proper log. Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
It's nice to leave a comment. Did you enjoy the hunt/cache/area? How will you remember a particular cache, in years to come and you're many hundreds or thousands of cache finds down the line? Once you've logged your finds via Field Notes, Clear All means it's easier to see your new logs next time. Quote Link to comment
+Traditional Bill
Hi 2 questions please. Do I have to leave a comment for every cache I find to allow me to upload it to my profile? What does the CLEAR ALL FIELD NOTES and BULK DELETE buttons actually do? Thanks Si To your first question - it is entirely up to you what to write in your log, however us cache owners who take time to place those caches for you to find appreciate some sort of comment when you log a find. As for your second question,"CLEAR ALL FIELD NOTES" will clear all of your field notes. "BULK DELETE" will allow you to delete multiple things at once. Quote Link to comment
Pup Patrol
Do I have to leave a comment for every cache I find to allow me to upload it to my profile? No, you don't HAVE to leave a comment in your "found it" log. Some folks have posted nothing more than their username, or ".", or other silly, useless things. Once you have submitted the "found it" log, the find is credited to your profile. (Some times it might not be immediate, and you need to be patient. The system will catch up eventually.) B. +Sim454
Hi and thank you for your replies. I left a comment every time I found a Cache but not all of my comments have appeared on my page once uploaded. So I can't remember what I wrote for each Cache, hence do I need to leave a comment as I can't remember each Cache individually that I found. I should of explained better regarding the 'CLEAR ALL FIELD NOTES' button. If I press it, does all my fields appear on my log page as found or do they delete altogether showing no evidence that I've visited the locations? Regards Simon Quote Link to comment
+MartyBartfast
Field notes are created by some GPSs and some Phone apps and are then uploaded to GC.com, when they appear on the GC.com site as field notes then at that point they're only visible to you and won't appear on the individual cache pages. on the field notes page there will be a link beside each one saying somethign like "write log", when you click those links you will be taken to a page, ready filled in with what you wrote on your GPS/phone, and you can then "submit" the log, once you have done that your comments will appear on the cache page and the field note will disappear from your field notes list. From what you've described above it sounds like you havent done the "write log" bit for any of your finds. HTH. Martyn. Quote Link to comment

If I press it, does all my fields appear on my log page as found or do they delete altogether showing no evidence that I've visited the locations? "Clear All Field Notes" allows you to delete them, it doesn't submit them to the cache log for you. Instead of that, for each Field Note, click the "Compose Log" link. You will then be presented with a screen where you may type your cache log. The Field Note is also there, typically just a "reminder" quickly entered into the GPS device at the cache. My Field Note may be something like "WET T TB ORING BIRD" and the cache log is "Log sheet was wet, so I dried it a little. Took the Lion TB. The O-Ring was gone from the cache tube so I installed a new one. I saw a great white heron on the shore here. Thanks!". When I submit my composed log, that field note is automatically hidden, and the next one is at the top, ready for Compose Log. Sometimes I type a cache log without using the Compose Log link, so that's when I might use "Clear All Field Notes", after I've typed my cache logs, and want to tidy the list. Here's a pretty cool short tutorial I found just now: https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7Beba941f0-9552-11e0-cbc1-000000000000%7D I hope the presentation file plays. A "Power Point Viewer" popped up when I tried it, on my PC. The menus are a little out of date in the presentation, but you'll get the idea. Edited October 4, 2015 by kunarion Quote Link to comment
