Wherigo with Ipod Touch

I was able to use "play anywhere" cartridges with my iPod touch running the Wherigo app. (no additional GPSr required) That did, of course, limit my options. Just bought an Oregon 450, it still has the Wherigo player built in and now I can do any Wherigo. Will probably pull the app off my iPod now, come to think of it.

Some play anywhere cartridges have it where there is no zone to go to. Others have the zones "develop" around you and thus you can play them anywhere.

As to deleting the app off of your iPod touch. DON'T - you will find that the Oregon 450 can get cracnky sometimes with Wherigos, so the iPod is a good backup source for a player. Granted it is no good "in the field" but still 2 devices are better than NO devices.

BTW - welcome to world of Wherigo....there are lots locally to enjoy, as you may already know.

I will second what gvsu4msu said. The Garmin Oregon platform is the most unstable of all Wherigo Players. Sometimes, a simple cartridge will run. Other times, that same cartridge will produce odd errors. It's inconsistent and seems to have barely enough resources to run its Wherigo Player. On the other hand, it tends to be more convenient and accurate (on average) than an iPod. Granted, if Wherigo evolves into what I envision, you will not be able to run certain features of next-gen cartridges on a Garmin Wherigo Player (in part due to its reliance on being connected to the Internet and the ability for cartridge authors to alter the layout/display of their cartridge). You will need a device that will be able to support a newer version of the Wherigo Player, and it's very unlikely for me to think Garmin will come out with an update.
