Possible fake cacher again

Got access after I left work to send a message to both cacher and GHQ. Cacher may not be fake since they started 2015 but many cachers here are concerned. Especially when the cacher is not responding to messages. They may have just logged them and hasn't had time to post a real log yet. We will see.

Maybe they blocked you? Sounds like you are harassing them to me. :(

How is sending one message harassing?

Maybe I misunderstood. Did they fake log your geocache?

If you just took it on your own to take action with this person that has logged 100 finds today from Ohio to California, then that would seem to me like harassment. Then go as far to post a thread and name them in it and contact Geocaching HQ. That just seems a little overboard to me. :anicute:

We got a response. A young cacher wanted to hide one and so they faked finds so they looked experienced.
Sounds like an argument against the site enforcing minimum find counts for geocache owners...

 My thoughts exactly. The law of unintended consequences strikes again.

Edit to add: I just wanted to clarify that I've never been a fan of the idea of "minimum Finds/experience" theory, and the fact that Groundspeak has spent some time and resources on the idea demonstrates their willingness to respond to concerns from the Community, contrary to the naysayers out there. Just goes to show, you have to be careful what you ask for.

That happens so often in geocaching. It's quite a lesson in human nature.

Find counts/numbers

Challenge caches

Statistics

Grid filling

Souvenirs

Power trails

Encouraging a suggested number of caches before hiding

Anything that deals with competition or numbers seems to have unintended "cheating" consequences.

This doesn't really affect me, I don't concern myself with other people posting bonus logs. However, It did bring up a question for me. How can you find other cacher's profiles?

Click on the username, either in the forum or on a cache page.

Or:

https://www.geocaching.com/my/default.aspx

Scroll down to "find another player".

B.

Ahh, that find another player thing is what I was looking for. I knew there was a way to do, just couldn't remember how.

This part sounds more like peer pressure to me.

Someone logging obvioulsy bogus finds is clearly outside the norm for this game. Log a lot of them and you can earn yourself a banner headline in the forums.

There could be many reasons that people do this and this one seems quite naive as noted above but scanning many of their find logs and seeing nothing but short gibberish entries leads me to believe that some sort of peer pressure was due.

I think people should be questioned about this and reported if they continue.

Then go as far to post a thread and name them in it...

Yes, I didn't care too much for that either because they were young people. They did, though, leave themselves open when it went beyond a handful of local caches.

Odd was also they live in Ohio and chose California to fake their finds.

All is fine now. The affected cache logs were deleted by both COs and the cacher.
