Release Notes - May 18, 2015

Psssst... We think you'll like this update! In response to community requests, we updated Message Center beta email notifications to include message content. Notifications will be triggered when:

  •

  • You receive a message from a geocacher who you have not received a message from before.
  • You receive a message from a geocacher and at least 30 minutes have elapsed since the last message in the conversation.

Notifications will include the text of the first message only. If the message consists exclusively of an image, then no message text will be included in the email. You can turn on/off notifications in your Account Settings.

PSSST..... Not if I understand what I read.

If you can send the text of a message in the email notice once, WHY NOT FOR EVERY INSTANCE?!?!! This is going to be more of an aggravation than anything. Once a person has ever sent me a message, I will never see the text of future messages in notifications from them?

SMH....and it still doesn't work on some platforms?

I would like it even more if I could access the message centre with my android tablet.

Try a web browser. Works in Firefox.

It really should be made to work in all tablets that "support" the Intro App. Which common 'droids are verified still not able to access the MC?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S 8" tablet, and the text in any of the browsers is about as tiny as I would ever hope to attempt to read. It does support the MC, fortunately. But if I wished to view the MC on a phone, the App would be the way to go.

Wait, when I say "Intro App", I mean the Official free App that is now called "Geocaching". I think.

I'd quite like the option to choose how often I get the emails, just like in the forums. With a 30 minute gap, some messages could be missed for some cachers when they get quick replies within that time gap.

It might also be nice to be able to reply to an email and the reply goes straight to the message center. I'm not sure how that would work, but it would make people who prefer to email much happier.

But it is quickly developing into a great product! Thanks for the hard work!

The notification now containing actual message content is a big step forward. But yes, it needs to be (configurably?) this way for every message, not just the first one, or it defeats the purpose.

This is not just "nice", it's key to making this system actually usable for everyone.

Yes, thanks for addressing some of the concerns. Please keep doing so.

(I'm still not convinced that this should have been a priority, but at this rate, it might become useful one of these days...)
