Servus!

Today i placed my first cache and released it. Now I want to add some spoiler images, as I know this fromsome caches I've just searched for, but I don't find the option to upload them. I only find the button for uploading normal images. ;)

I know, that for sure I'm just blind  but could anyone help me?

Cheers

There 3 basic ways to add pics to your own cache.

1) Add a picture as the background image. This will add the picture to the caches "gallery".

2) Go to your cache page and select "Upload Images" on the top right. This will add photos to your cache listing and will remain on the listing and show up in the caches "gallery".

3) You can post a 'write note' log and upload the photos in the log as you would upload photos in find logs on other peoples caches. The only issue is that as your cache is found your note will be pushed to the bottom of the logs and people may not see it unless they view the caches "gallery"

For something like a spoiler picture, I'd go with option 2.

As a Hunter of the cache, there have been times that I kinda wished there was a Spoiler Pic.... Maybe.

But as the Owner/Hider of the cache, why would you want to give it away prematurely? To me, that spoils (duh!, thus the name, huh?) of the hunt.

As a Hunter, I've asked for and received helps from the CO when I got stumped at GZ and couldn't find the cache. Heck, a couple times, my lack of a find has resulted in a Maintenance Check from the owner, only to find that it was indeed missing. (one time With, and the other time With Out me sending an NM log)

As the CO/Hider, I would return the favor if asked via email or log entry. But I don't see why you'd want to post a Spoiler Pic right in with the listing.

I'm a newer CO though, so I guess different folks have reasons for doing what they want. So the above is just my humble Opinion. As for me, I've been using different Background Images to reflect the area or the specific nature/theme of the cache.

This game has so few rules, it invites opinions like bears to honey. It is reasonable to assume there are as many types of C.O.'s as there are hunters of caches. Some C.O.'s take great pride in the difficulty of their hides. The craftsmanship and creativity they invest in a hide is sometimes nothing short of astounding. Those C.O.'s tend to develop a reputation, and attract geocachers from great distances to hunt for their more famous caches. A spoiler pic is a rare thing for those guys. Other C.O.'s are perfectly happy to toss an old piece of Tupperware (or worse) in a roadside ditch and call it a good days work towards improving their "Caching karma" (rarely a spoiler pic, but for an obviously different reason). Many C.O.'s do a good amount of research about the chosen location and try to pass on a bit of an education to the hunters of their cache. Their spoiler pics are most often of a historical marker (which the cache container is attached to, or very near). Some of us C.O.'s (I'm in this bunch) just want an excuse to get outside, and desire to entice as many others to get outdoors as we can. I personally include a "give away" spoiler on all of my caches. I want my caches to be found, and I want anyone who makes the effort to get to the site to walk away with a "smiley face", even if that boils down to nothing more than a goofy icon on a stats page. I don't want people tearing up the foliage or taking apart plumbing fixtures, or digging through piles of sticks or rocks to find my hides. If you made it to my cache site, I have done what I set out to do. It takes all types to make this game what it is. We would soon become bored with this game if everyone hid their caches like I do, and we (at least I) would become discouraged if we only found 1 out of 10 or 20 caches we hunted for. Spoiler pics are just another kind of hint. Some like them, and some don't. I prefer to give the geocacher looking for my hides a choice. They can look at the spoiler pic if they want, or they can ignore it. They can read the hint if they want, or they can ignore it. A game with few rules is all about choices, both for the "hiders" and the "finders". If you enjoy hiding things for others to find, as much as you enjoy finding things others have hidden, then you are doing it right! Is this an awesome game or what? Have fun!

I think you're looking at this from the perspective of urban caching. For the most part, you're not gunna see a spoiler pic on a cache thats placed in an urban enviroment for I think posting a spoiler pic on an urban cache is frowned upon. 'Spoiler pics' are much more common on rural caches that necessitate a good amount of hiking or planning to get to.

I have received DNF's on a cache that takes a number of hours to hike to. When a day is planned around hiking to and finding the cache, a DNF can be a real downer for the seeker and owner. When placing a rural cache I intend fully for the seeker to find the cache. If I think there is a possibility someone could not be able to find it for whatever reason, I will add the spoiler pic to help because I'd hate for someone to do the whole hike and only be able to log a DNF.

As newcomers to this game we have posted pics of a full log as "proof". And the CO kindly emailed us stating that he'd rather we state the log was full but not post pics as it gives away the nature of the container. Because we have met him, and he was kind to explain why he didn't want pics, then we had no problem with his request. This was on his urban caches.
