Sellskate
Hi, I have just recently learned about geocaching and thought it would be fun for my soon to be 7 yr old and 5 year old. I have never geocached before, and never had a handheld gps.. I have a few questions.. We live on a large amount of land. My kids love to explore and I think they'd have a blast finding the "treasure". Is there any way I could hide the treasure on our property, and put the location in their gps for them to find..without others seeing it online? Does that make sense? Also, does anyone have any recommended gps's that are suitable for a young child? Thank you Quote Link to comment
+hzoi
You can certainly hide practice geocaches on your land for the kids to find. All you need to do is hide a cache, record the coordinates, and then hand them the GPSr and let 'em rip. They don't need to be published on the website for that. In order for them to be published on the geocaching.com site, they would have to be accessible for all geocachers, not just your family. If you don't want folks wandering around your backyard, recommend putting someplace they could access from the road without invading your privacy too much. Quote Link to comment
+lee737
Also, does anyone have any recommended gps's that are suitable for a young child? My 6 1/2 year old son has no trouble in using my (our!) Garmin Oregon 650 - I think you will find he'll be fine with any of them, just choose on cost/features...... Quote Link to comment
