+wfalzon
Hello friends, I would like the opinion of the GPS caching community, in regards to powering GPS units. I did some research after coming across the term eneloop batteries in a few threads. Which batteries do you guys use? I know there are trade offs with any choice. Is there a advantage to using the high output eneloops? Eventually I will go quality rechargeable, not in a hurry I can use the pack that comes with the unit and akyline for the time being. This charger looks like a quality unit at a reasonable price how do the specs look? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JL3XL2G/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00JL3XL2G&linkCode=as2&tag=aaeneloop-20&linkId=4UHJMPFUD4IVJUKA Thanks for reading Will F. My latest gadget for use with several small portable electronic devices is an Anker Astro E3 External Battery with 2 USB 5vdc output ports. This rechargeable battery pack contains 10,000 mAH of lithium something or other energy, but the voltage at which the amp hour run time is calculated is not specified in the advertising. The fine print in the included user booklet does indicate average of 10AH at regulated 5vdc at various loads. As to internal loose AA cells, perhaps rechargeable, but not recharged within the device, you can't go wrong purchasing new Panasonic Eneloop brand AA cells bundled with a mains charger. Four of these externally rechargeable NiMH AA cells, rated at 1900 mAH @1.2v each, will last most geocachers for at least one full day of use. Edited to correct claimed amp-hour output of Anker External Battery: 10AH @ regulated 5v Edited June 21, 2015 by 39_Steps Quote Link to comment

+BAMBOOZLE
I've posted this in the past : Amen to this one....I have lost test instruments and electronics over the years.EVERYTHING I own that takes batteries has low discharge NIMH....for GPS, cameras, and other critical items I use these : http://www.thomasdis...ies_p_2927.html For clocks, remotes, toys, etc. I use these : http://www.thomasdis...ies_p_2252.html This is my all time favorite charger : http://www.thomasdis...lay_p_2559.html I have a couple of these for traveling and they work fine : http://www.thomasdis...ger_p_1105.html In addition to being a GPS junkie I'm a battery / charger junkie and over the years have tried everything.....I have drawers full of product and no telling what I have thrown away. I've born the expense and done the testing so save yourself the brain damage and get the above. I will say I used MAHA NIMH reguler batteries for years with no problems but the Eneloops are a cut above. The weak link of rechargeable batteries has always been the charger.....I've used MAHA ( I own every one they make )for many years with great results. Quote Link to comment
