+TheBullens5
i am considering buying a SATMAP Active 12 for geocaching and walking. It has features to cope with paperless geocaching, but I can't see any download options on the website caches. Does anyone have an active 12? If yes how do you get on with it geocaching? +Gitchee-Gummee
You likely would need SatSYNC, a program to perform uploads and downloads: https://satmap.com/satsync . Edited April 16, 2015 by Gitchee-Gummee Quote Link to comment
+ecanderson
Since you asked specifically about 'paperless', I'll jump another direction and ask if that's what you're concerned about - using it to send cache notes to geocaching.com as Field Notes. The device would need to generate a geocache_visits.txt file of your 'notes' to be compatible with the gc.com site. I see nothing to indicate that. All their specs say is "Fully compatible with geocaching.com files", which probably only means that it can handle *.gpx files. Whether it has any of the cache-specific features to go along with that that you might find on other units isn't explained in their specs. Given the rather high price vs. comparable caching specific units, I'd definitely be sure to talk to a cacher that has actually used one. That said, why not download their manual and see what it offers??? >>> http://cdn.satmap.com/A12_FullUserGuide_Software_v2.0.xx_Edition_v1.0_small.pdf Quote Link to comment
+ecanderson
For what it's worth - after looking at their manual, I doubt it would know the difference between a found and unfound cache - no straightforward means for recording whether you've found one or not. Certainly no mention of the cache notes side of paperless caching that would allow it to be used to upload notes to gc.com as other units can do. Doesn't look all that caching friendly.
