Gele Bussie geocoin help

For many years I have been trying to fill in holes in my Dutch geocoin collection. One of my most sought after coins is the Gele Bussie. I was quite lucky recently and added two new editions, making a total of three Gele Bussie coins in my collection. There is one more edition that eludes me.

The problem is, I don't even know if it exists!

My information about the Gele Bussie coins came from KarelKraak of k2coins, but he wasn't the minter. He seemed to know quite a bit about them though, and told me that there were 4 versions: gold, silver, antique bronze, and bare black nickel. The last one was non-trackable. One of the ones I recently picked up was the antique bronze. It turns out that this one is also bare metal (no enamel) and is non-trackable. I don't know if KarelKraak forgot to mention this, or didn't know. It makes me wonder if he confused the antique bronze and the black nickel editions. Does the black nickel edition even exist?

So, here's where I'm asking for help -- has anyone ever seen the black nickel Gele Bussie? Do you have it in your collection? Come across a photo of it? Spotted it at an event?

Any info (and especially a posted photo) would be greatly appreciated!

PS: Just today I discovered that the headlights glow in the dark! :D

Ask Barny :-)

Even though he is the subject of the coin, he didn't have them made. He may know the info I am seeking, but he has never answered my emails.

Um, yes he did and KK did produce them. That's how I got mine (direct from KK) several years ago. These coins were going to be sold in the shop, but Barny had so much fun placing them in caches, they never became a commercial coin. I only ever owned the nickel and gold versions.

My info came from Barny via Sivota. All of my Gele Bussie coins have come in envelopes with the geocoins.nl card in them -- perhaps this later became k2coins -- I don't know. Barny told Sivota directly that he did not have the coins made, though he knows who did.

At the time -- back in 2010 -- Barny was trying to acquire all of the remaining uncirculated coins from the original owner, but I don't know if that ever came about.

There is a topic on one of the Dutch forums that starts in November 2007.

This is the time that some Gele Bussie coins started showing up in Dutch caches.

All geocoins are trackable and gold or nickel versions.

All except one (and when carefully read, this is the first geocoin that was found)

The finders placed a picture of a black nickel sample coin.

The coin is not trackable, much to orange and has a slightly different name ("Gele Busje" instead of "Gele Bussie")

Since this posting I've never seen or heard of a black nickel Gele Bussie coin anymore.

This is all I know about the mysterious black nickel Gele Bussie geocoin.

Although Barny is the owner of the real Yellow Bus (and moving cache GC3200), he is not the maker or distributor of the geocoins and he didn't order them.

In fact he only owns two activated and one sample (copper) Gele Bussie geocoins himself.

The only non activated geocoin Barny had left, he gave away not that long ago.

I have a non colored antique gold sample (of which I'm told that only three were made).

An attempt to try to get a few more coins from the one who ordered and distributed these Gele Bussie geocoins has not succeeded and Barny has not tried again.

To be honest he is not that into geocoins as we are and he has some other priorities.

Barny does not answer his mail because he doesn't speak or write English and he has no coins for everyone who asks him.

He will not reveal the name(s) of the maker(s) to you as he feels it is not up to him to do so.

That is all I can tell you folks, I'm sorry if it disappoints you...

(KK is one of three geocachers that started geocoins.nl. When this site was closed KK went on alone and started k2coins.)

The topic on the Dutch forum is shielded for non members and in Dutch.

Therefore giving a link is senseless, but this is the picture shown:

Somebody today sent me pictures of what looks like an antique copper version of the Gele Bussie coin! It has XXXXXX engraved, indicating it is a sample, but it makes me wonder if there were any trackable antique copper versions made.

The sender wishes to remain anonymous, but wanted the pictures posted in this thread.

Intrigue on top of intrigue!

The name on this coin is Het Gele Busje and not Het Gele Bussie <_<

1) Versions

the owner of that coin says 3 trackable editions (see OP of this thread), and a non-trackable Black Nickel exist.

2) Spelling

I don't speak Dutch, but these are my observations:

The trackables seem to say "Gele Bussie" - where the 'i' could have been meant as a 'j', as it procedes a spec lower then the other letters (or is this my imagination?). And it has a double-'s'.

The sample pictures in this thread (copper and BN) only have one 's' and an obvious 'j'. I guess this is the correct spelling (http://www.woxikon.de/dut/busje.php) - that means, the coin and the Groundspeak name are both wrong.

So the question is what names a coin: is it what the coin says - or what the correct spelling is?

Problem: There are two spellings on different coins.

Solution, because I would go (sadly) for the spelling on the coin:

the non-trackable (sample) coins are named "Het Gele Busje".

The trackable coins are named "Het Gele Bussie" (or "Het Gele Busje Spelling Error Coin"?)

3)

Maybe 2) is exactly what pingo wanted to say.

But E&Cplus3 wasn't wrong at all saying "looks like..." - nobody said "looks the same..."
