mailit2brian
I apologize if this has previously been explained. Searched forums and didn’t find this answer. I am new to geocaching, and downloaded the Groundspeak app. When we locate a cache we are interested in I click "navigate to geochache". A nice map pulls up, and a direct line is drawn to the location. Is there a way to get turn by turn directions to the waypoint instead of the direct line? Sometimes I am the only adult in the car and this becomes very difficult (kids not old enough to help). My only other option (that I know how to do) is to map it out before hand, or to input the cords into another app. Am I missing something on the Groundspeak app? Or are turn by turn directions frowned upon? Thanks Quote Link to comment
+Condorito
Pretty sure they don't exist... You'll probably have to use another app... Quote Link to comment
+Lieblweb
No turn-by-turn navigation on the geocaching app. If you have Google Maps, you need to transfer the coordinates to google maps and you'll get turn-by-turn instructions to GZ. Be forewarned..... it will take you close to GZ. You will need to search for a suitable location nearest GZ to park. My husband and I normally use a Garmin Nuvi. You can put Geocaches directly into the NUVI and search for them and hit GO...... but currently, my Nuvi is being sent back to Garmin for repairs and I've had to use Google maps to navigate here recently. I've been wondering if OR HOW to get SIRI to understand coordinates - but I just haven't had time to research that little tidbit yet. Quote Link to comment
+Chief301
No, no such feature in the app (would be nice, though, it would make the app just about perfect). I'm usually pretty good at scoping out the route I need to take to get to the next cache. Of course most of my caching is in the country so it's not like navigating the labyrinth of city streets. I would suggest keeping a note pad with you....when you pull up the next cache in the app, zoom in and pre plan your route. Then just jot down some simple turn by turn directions, i.e., "left on Main Street, right on Elm, left on 1st". That should at least get you in the neighborhood. Amazingly enough, this is how people used to get where they were going for years before we got used to the idea of obeying the voice in the box on the dashboard 😃 Quote Link to comment
NordicMan
It works pretty good on the Android version Navigate to Geocache --> Directions takes you straight to Google nav & voice guidance What if you installed an alternative navigation app on your iPhone maybe that would help? Quote Link to comment
+themeecer
I am getting where I hate Apple more and more. For years they had the audacity to tell consumers they didn't need flash, they didn't need folders, they didn't need a whole host of features the jailbreaking community gave us. Now we can't even use our geocaching app to give us driving directions to our caches. I have 2 paid navigation apps on my phone, plus google maps, and iphone maps. Yet because of Apple's draconian measures I can't get the apps to talk with each other. At one time I thought it was possible to open a cache in an external map browser .. I don't see that option anymore. I don't even see the option to save to clipboard the coords. It is annoying to have a piece of technology in hand that easily has the ability to do what we want and yet being unable to use it that way. Edit: Well my rant about Apple still stands but I found a work around. Use the Geosphere app instead. It allows you to use iPhone's turn by turn navigation. I don't know why the official app doesn't allow it. Hopefully they will fix that soon ... I like the official app's interface better. Edited July 18, 2013 by themeecer Quote Link to comment
+JohnCNA
Try Geosphere on your iPhone. Due to several noticed shortcomings with the Groundspeak app on my wife's iPhone, I gave it a try and immediately purchased it and switched her over. Calling up turn by turn map navigation was one of the features that Geosphere had that the GC app did not. What totally sold me on Geosphere was the built in Dropbox support for loading/saving GPX files, so she could share cache lists with me on my Android and Garmin and vice versa. Quote Link to comment
+cache_n_out
Sad to pay another $8 for something the "official" app ought to do (and did on my andriod). Quote Link to comment
KittlerKlan
Actually I just found this youtube video that explains how to do it with the geocaching app. Pretty simple. Quote Link to comment

+geodarts
Actually I just found this youtube video that explains how to do it with the geocaching app. Pretty simple. Funny how apps improve over the course of years, huh. Too many steps and too few options for me. I prefer just to click on a bookmark in the cache page of Geosphere and be taken directly to Navigon (offline routing), Google maps, GaiaGPS, Pocket Earth, or other mapping alternatives that support links from other apps. I just learned how to make a direct link in Geosphere to support Nokia's free offline voice routing app, Here, which is a great alternative in areas where there is no cell reception. Nice!
