Hi - I recently heard this - "Groundspeak give a free premium membership to police officers who will create an institutional cache and keep a watchful eye over caches in their area."

Is this true ?

That's a new one.

Department representatives can receive a free PM through Groundspeak's Parks and Police program.

I don't understand that statement.

 

There's no geographical limitation to the complimentary PM for police and land managers.

 

It seems like there is something not being said in this thread. I'm not sure where you got the information that prompted the OP.

 

The "institutional" cache is something I've never heard of. Perhaps whoever told you this would like to explain where they got their information from.

I agree that there seems to be more to the story.

 

I've found a cache that was placed and owned by city police officers. It was located next to the police station, and they kept it stocked with baseball-card-style cards showing various officers on the force, toy police badges, and other trade items related to law enforcement.

 

But that was done because they wanted to do it. There was no requirement for them to do it in order to get their complementary premium membership.

I think the Free PM is so if there is a call for a suspicious package or people, LEO's will have the option to check if there is a Geocache at that location.
