olympia_s
So i'm new to Geocaching and the forums and after surfing through a couple Geocaches I was surprised to find that there are Geocaches (actually quite a few) in my area! I mean my suburb isn't even that significant so at first i thought I'd have to travel into the city to actually go find something. But anyways, I was wondering why people always say you have to be stealthy when looking for Geocaches. It's not like you'll get arrested. Sure you might look weird scouting around the same area for an hour but still... i dont get it. Also I have no idea what a Geocache is supposed to look like. Does anyone have a list of images of all the kinds of geocaches? (I know people sometimes use the DIY Geocaches, like plastic bags or Tupperware boxes, but what about the official ones?) Thanks! RosAndEd
You need to use stealth so other people not in the hobby don't see you and then decide to have a look and (unintentionally, probably) steal the cache. Caches can look like anything. It's better not to have pre-conceived ideas. Go and find out! Choose an easy cache, and go and find it. You'll know it when you see it. +L0ne.R
1. Google image search: geocache Example: 2. Groundspeaks' geocaching shop: Cache containers & supplies Quote Link to comment
+L0ne.R
(I know people sometimes use the DIY Geocaches, like plastic bags...) People should not use plastic bags (baggies) as a container. They can use them inside the cache container to protect items but they should not be used as a container. Quote Link to comment

These are usually heavy ziplock pill bags, and are sometimes covered/reinforced with duct tape. But I agree that thinner plastic bags usually don't do well as geocache containers. Many of them don't do well protecting cache items either. And a container can seal perfectly, but if a plastic bag gets caught between the lid and the container, then the plastic will compromise the seal, wicking moisture into the container. Couture_Tweets
Hey Hey, I'm also new to Geocaching, I've been wanting to do it for a while but just registered and will probably go search for a few within the next few days, mostly because I want to place a bunch myself but want to get an idea of what they look like and how to hide them. BUT, I think I have one problem... the main reason I joined is because I love the outdoors and spend tons of time in Ontario Provincial Parks (heading up to Algonquin next month). Am I not allowed to place GCs in Ont Prov Parks?? I haven't started GCing yet, so I want to know before hand so I'm not wasting my time. Thanks, Quote Link to comment

Thanks, You would need special permission from the specific Park to place any caches within its boundaries. There are already caches in Algonquin. Some are old, some are newer with permission. You should try finding some caches before thinking about placing any. And you should read the Guidelines over and over again before thinking about hiding any caches. https://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx Check out the Canada subforum: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showforum=28 B. You need to be able to respond to issues with your cache in a timely fashion. That's usually within 4 weeks. See the Hiding a Cache section of the Help Center. Especially the Geocache Ownership: A Long Term Responsibility section. Quote Link to comment

Especially the Geocache Ownership: A Long Term Responsibility section. A cache submission showing coordinates within the boundaries of an Ontario Provincial Park won't get that far, unless express permission to place a cache is demonstrated to the Reviewer. It's a rather touchy situation, and small progress has been made over the years. I'm not sure the new cacher with no finds, and a different username on their profile, has any idea that caches are Reviewed before being published. Please just forget the idea completely. B. The best advice is to have a container that is durable and water tight. Quote Link to comment

Most decent caches that we have found are Lock 'N Lock containers, readily available at major retailers. The plastic ones, not the glass ones. They come in a wide variety of sizes. http://www.locknlock.com.au/container.html B. Quote Link to comment

Also: Yes, your english is more than good enough, don't worry However, if you don't feel confident enough, there are local forums, on which you can speak your own language. +Nikolet_J
I originally downloaded the intro app. Now that I have paid for the premium membership I do not have the option to down load the full aop without paying for it again. What do I do? Quote Link to comment

What do I do? Right now, premium membership has little to do with apps. If you notice, now that you're pm, you have a few more options on that Geocaching Intro app. The Geocaching (full/paid) app is completely different from premium membership. - It's simply an app. If I were you (since you now have pm), I'd wait until the Intro becomes the app. Do a search, or look at reviews and you'll find the paid/full app is being phased out, with the much more up-to-date Intro getting all the updates in preparation for the change. Same app you have now, with all the bells N whistles combined for pms. Quote Link to comment

+coman123
A lot of thread hi-jacking in this post(s) To answer the original posters question. Geocaches can be any container you can think of that is water proof/tight and contains a log sheet/book. Everyone else would get better and more answers if they started their own topic's.
