Upload Geocaches to my Garmin 64s

Recommended Posts

I have bought my Garmin 64s in 2015 and thousands of Geocaches (published before mid 2014) were pre-install.

I know how to upload a single new cache to my GPS but what I am looking for is to download a complete list of all caches available today from the internet and upload it to my GPS.

Is that possible? How to do it?

Thanks for your help

... complete list of all caches available today from the internet and upload it to my GPS....

Are you looking for geocaching.com's complete database?

Yes, I am looking for the complete, today's database

Not only can you not download the complete database, it's impractical to do so.

The 64 came with 250,000 select geocaches... a sample to get you started. But why would you even need the entire worldwide listing on your device at any one time?

With Pocket Queries, you can load up to 1000 at a time (per query) with a maximum of 10 queries per day. So each day you can load up to 10,000 geocache listings. It takes people years to accumulate 10,000 finds so here are some tips.

Create a few PQs to cover every cache in your city or local region. Set these to run every week on a certain day so that they'll be constantly updated. This should cover the area that you visit often and regularly.

Make PQs for nearby regions and cities that you visit somewhat often, but not need to keep in your GPS permanently.

When travelling farther away, make PQs to cover the area you know you'll be in and run them just before you leave for your trip. If it's a high activity area and you're bringing a computer with you, then you can always run them again to get fresh updates. But otherwise, you can delete the PQs when you get home (if you want) if it's a place you aren't likely to return to in the near future.

Why don't you want to keep an exhaustive list of caches on your device at all time?

The more data on your device, the more you'll notice a performance lag as it searches through everything on there. The 64s can handle a lot of geocaches before you notice a performance drop, but with several million caches, your GPS might take a week just to index them.

When you're traveling, it's nice to just have them "all" for those "just in case" moments. But the reality is that you'll never be able to find them all, especially in a cache-dense metro area, so it's ok to have "just enough" loaded to keep you busy while you're away. Be efficient. you know where you will be, and even where you *might* be for any given day or week, so just load caches for those areas. Spur of the moment trips may still afford you the time to run a PQ before you head out.

some people do not have reliable internet/power. keeping the entire area /country on their limited storage space( stand alone) or unlimited (smartphone) is a good idea. i only keep about 11,000 on my smartphone, but update weekly another 300-600 or so. it's very convenient to not need a suit down session with internet access prior to heading out.
