+jhuoni
Why don't Waymarkers hold "events" - You know, those little shin digs that Geocachers have all the time? It would be interesting to see who else waymarks in my area. To trade stories about that perfect waymark listed. Maybe we could even create a NEW CATEGORY: Waymarking Events I know it wouldn't be as exciting as trading SWAG and Path Tags, but that isn't what Waymarking is about. This is an idea that crossed my mind one day while wandering aimlessly searching for the perfect waymark. This message is about 99.99% "tongue in cheek"... +BruceS
The main problem for a Waymarking event is that there are not many active waymarkers in any one area. I have met with various waymarkers in my travels for dinner or for coffee etc but having an event would be a pretty small affair. Quote Link to comment
GT.US
Previously, we did get permission to do a "virtual" event for waymarkers. I thought it would be fun to schedule something during a trivia game where we all played the trivia game at local restaurants at the same time and used a certail literal in our names to identify ourselves. I never got around to setting something up, but I would participate if someone else did. Quote Link to comment
+Max and 99
There is only one other active waymarker in my city state. We communicate several times a week, and I would learn absolutely nothing new from her at an event. Kudos to anyone who does have several waymarkers in their area-an event would be fun! +Manville Possum
I only know of one other Waymarker in the region. Last year I attended a MEGA geocaching event, one of the Lab caches was in a historic town and there was a Benchmark there and some Waymarks. I think myself and two others logged some waymarks, and there were over 500 geocachers in attendance. I like the idea of the Virtual event as GT.US suggested. I would take part also. +silverquill
About the only way I can see a physical event would be to piggy-back on one of the major Mega Geocaching events. I hear Germany is having a Giga Event! Some type of virtual event would certainly be worth pursuing, though! Love meeting waymarkers on the road, but those encounters are too few! I try to keep my sticker handy, though. Quote Link to comment
GT.US
My idea for a virtual event: There is a game that is broadcast in Bars and Restaurants called Buzztime People all play trivia against each other. I believe you can also play from your home. https://www.buzztime.com/play At the end of the game, it shows your scores on the screen. My idea was we would each make our logon WAY-your GC.com name, and play at the same time. At the end of the game, take a picture of the screen with your score, or do a screen capture of your PC or smartphone. Maybe we could have some sort of a chatroom open at the same time? +Ernmark
Great idea - I've played Buzztime trivia ..we could make it on a weekday (Worldwide Waymarking Take off From Work Day!) Quote Link to comment
+MountainWoods
Unfortunately I missed the chance at Waymarking events. I live in the same county as a former well-known Waymarker who was really gung ho at the hobby; and by the looks of his blog and other posts, we had some small Waymarking gatherings here. I only met him in person once, but corresponded with him a bunch of times. But he's making the Great Visit to a Heavenly Waymark now, and I'm not aware of any other Waymarkers in my corner of the state (let alone county). Not to say there aren't, but that I'm not aware of them. Otherwise I'd try to set up a Charles Britton Memorial Waymark Event or some such. A virtual event sounds interesting, but isn't the same thing as a real get-together. After all, one could consider these forums as a virtual Waymark event... Quote Link to comment

In case some of fellow waymarkers have plans to visit GeoAwards mega-event, I will be happy to create such "piggy-back" geocaching event for waymarkers and chat for while about unique Waymarking opportunities around. +Manville Possum
I'm still open to the virtual event idea. It's been done before with a few geocaching groups. The DGS was first, then the OpenCaching North America people hosted a virtual event. Quote Link to comment
+bluesnote
Actually, with the Caching the Bay Mega event coming up next weekend in San Jose it might be possible for a meet up with a few other major waymarkers, since I know DougK and Saopaulo1 live in the Bay Area with Metro2 and myself residing in the southern part of the state. For those of you that are going, it might be an interesting meet an greet since I've never met any major waymarkers before. I might even wear my Waymarking shirt. As for a new category, I'd be down for that but I don't think it's feasible since they are only available to visit once. Unless we make them publish through Groundspeak and they are only averrable at Megas and Gigas. I like the idea, but many of these events would get only 1 visit and that's from the waymark owner. I only know a few, literally only 4, waymarkers who live in my area within my county (Orange) compared to cachers who's numbers would be about 100-200. I've hosted a few cache events while trying to promote Waymarking and many of them just ignore it. They think it's that little useless button you click on the cache page, but it's much more than that. It's virtual geocaching, but unfortunately many just don't see the positives that come with Waymarking. It's similar to why I stopped doing Munzees since I don't see much of a value in it. Geocaching, you find a physical container which is really cool. Waymarking, you find a physical location which is really awesome. Both go hand in hand and that's why I have enjoyed the hobby for nearly a decade. Quote Link to comment

+bluesnote
bluesnote: ten years now, congratulations. Thank you elyob! Waymarking has made me learn so much more about the rich history in every little town I've been to. Geocaching helps me find those places. Almost 10 years later, I've nearly posted 10,000 waymarks. And the addiction to learn and explore just keeps on growing... Quote Link to comment
+TerraViators
There are at least a dozen active waymarkers in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, three in my small-to-mid-sized college town. Quote Link to comment
