belevenisonderwijs
Since a week WhereYouGo still works perfect, but shows no maps (streetplan) This is what I tried to do: Reinstalling smartphone (android), reinstalling WhereYouGo has no effect. GPS, wifi is no problem. App can find sd-card, since it can find the Wherigo's. Is it possible that WhereYouGo can't find GoogleMaps any more? Has WhereYouGo changed? Or Google Maps? 4 weeks ago no problems at all. We use Wherigo's for students, a nice way to experience there own environment and climatechange. We need to see the maps. Our education stops without it. Kind regard, Guido van Belle Alkmaar (The Netherlands) Quote Link to comment
Ranger Fox
This would make sense if WhereYouGo is using Google Maps v2, which is no longer available. (Google had a long deprecation cycle--around two years--in which developers were warned to switch to v3.) Please see the WF.Player for Android thread as this will be the new Android Wherigo Player going forward. In addition, after further development, the new player will be able to download cartridges directly from the site. You could then set up some unpublished cartridges on the site, configure the students' players with a student account for Wherigo, and give that account tester access on the site to the cartridge. That way, you'd have your teacher account with read/write permission and a read-only account for the students so they can access and download your cartridges without them being published. It's also possible to have accounts for each student and give them read-only tester access to a cartridge and have them make log entries on and upload pictures to the site. In this way, the logs and photos won't be visible to the general public because the cartridge isn't published. All but the API access is currently set up at the moment. This is what we're working towards. Feel free to play around with our test site (the link is in my signature) and provide comments. As an educator, if there's anything else you'd like to suggest as a feature that would help you in the classroom, please do suggest it. The Wherigo Foundation has more than four years of work ahead to bring new features to Wherigo, so now is the time to suggest things. I know of a few educators myself and would enjoy seeing Wherigo used in the classroom. After it's capable enough and looks prettier, I do want to see about offering complete lesson plans to teachers. belevenisonderwijs
Dear sir, Sometimes I'm feeling like a dummy. Searching for an answer through the forums. Not a real dummy. No problem with WhereYouGo or Urwigo - I can make educational games - a combination of learning, exitement and testing. And then we use the player WhereYouGo. Students download the app, import the Wherigo and action... At the end we can see how many points were found, which questions were answered etc. But when I'm on these forums I feel like a dummy. I guess you're working on the program itself. (I was pretty confident, for years) I hope you can imagine that I can't understand your answers. I figured out you and college's are working on a steady programm for all devices. I read about upgrades... As a user: do I have to take action to get such upgrades? I still don't understand why the player from the app-store suddenly does not show the map. And my college's with their own devices too. so far about the problems at this moment. Hope there's some help for now available. Kind regards, Guido van Belle (Alkmaar, The Netherlands) additional I'd like to share how we use Wherigo's as an alternative for learning in school. I think you'd be more happy to do that in an other topic. A programm for free - Sure I'll help to make it better. A serious request for the real programmers- which I read not only for me - is the possibility of using offline maps. What the simple users needs is a instruction: maps with .map or .... (programm suggestions) and to place it in what map. (cache, WhereYouGo, maps... - or elsewhere on youre divice) Most important reason are the cost's for datadownloading for students of 12-16 years... For me as teachers is easy to make a how-to for each student. Nice would be to insert hyperlinks and the possibility to switch between WhereYouGo and YouTube for example. But: rather a simple and steady programm than a programm that crashes. Earlier I read about a service from Groundspeak which is not paid for. Parallel to the forums I'd like a paid-helpdesk. It cuts of the most easy questions. For my problem at this moment I'd really like to pay for two hours work and I'd be able to continue. Quote Link to comment

+BaldEd
belevenisonderwijs: I was very interested to see your posting of the 23rd April 2014. The loss of the map since the recent upgrades is a disappointment to me. I would like to be able to see the maps again. 1. Which offline map do you use? 2. Where and how did you install it on your phone? 3. How did you get your android phone to select the map? I am a smartphone newbie, so please be gentle with your replies. Eddie Quote Link to comment
belevenisonderwijs
Dear Eddie, I get my map from http://download.mapsforge.org/ , click maps and download. format = .map For me: the Netherlands is 300 MB ; pretty much. But it works. Place the map at the same place as your Wherigo's/caches; in the WhereYouGo folder. An other place is not really a problem, since the programm is asking to select a source for the map. When WhereYouGo does not ask for the folder; you can select it when you use the map for navigating and on the top right there is a mapbutton. All the installing I do with the smartphone connected to the computer. Of course sometimes a google maps, or a sqlite would be fine. For me, I'm happy its works without internetconnection in te field. Good luck. Quote Link to comment

Eddie Are you using Whereyougo v.0.89? If so, then maps should work. On map screen look in upper right corner for small "map" click on that and select a map. I choose Mapquest (online), and it seems to work when I open the Whereyougo player and choose the map screen. You might need to zoom in or out initially to see the map detail (or get it to build). K-and-K
I have a Monterra GPS, to which I can choose different online and offline mapping options, online works great. But I'm not playing indoors, or tethering to my phone, so my other options are to find the maps on the GPS drive itself. Because it uses the Android operating system for our Chile trip I used maps.me app for offline. I purchased the topo for Canada, and North American road maps, though it has global highways for default it lacks the detailed info required, to which is why I bought the additional maps. But globally SOL again. But the maps.me app did the trick. But back to the Wherigo ... NO ! I believe we require a .map file extension to be stored on the drive, another format to look for ! http://download.mapsforge.org/ Unfortunately the offline map did not work ! And then I got it to work ! http://download.mapsforge.org/maps/world/ Index of /maps/world - not sure what I did V3 didn't appear to work so I tried another directory. system crashed ... reformatted to factory .... V5 no good, world map no good, both maps too big ! I think it was simply running online Guessing it won't display on the Monterra GPS units. Edited December 16, 2019 by K-and-K Quote Link to comment
