Magellan explorist GC import found caches

Recommended Posts

Your found caches need to be so marked by the unit itself, not imported from another source... that is how the smiley-face is associated within the unit to your found caches.

I believe that others have tried to load their unit from the 'My Finds' query, but I haven't heard of those attempts as being successful in showing up as a smiley on the screen.

You could mark them as such in your unit, but if you use the field notes upload, it could be problematic with the caches that you have already found (double-logging).

If you do not use the field notes upload, it shouldn't be a problem -- outside of your having to log those 140+ "Found Its" manually, one-at-a-time into your unit. Don't make any written log, just mark it as "Found".

It would be a cumbersome task, but at 140 or so, not impossible.

As WH stated, it will contribute clutter, a lot of it... even more as you add to them over time.

The way I see it: If I have found it, I don't need it there anymore. Why would I want it there? You can always locate your Finds on your computer whenever you want.

I entered all of my finds into the unit by hand before I had a bunch of finds. I was able to stay more or less synchronized with my actual finds until I did a firmware upgrade.

The found caches will only show up on the screen or in the cache list if you have them loaded from your PQ into the geocaches directory. They will be displayed with a smiley instead of the regular icon. If you exclude found caches from your PQ,there is no clutter.

I often found it handy to load found caches if I was caching in a group, and it was nice to be able to tell which ones I'd already found.

I was just wanting my Magellan eXplorist GC to have the right number of caches in the found it section, so after looking all over to find out how to do that, and realizing that you can't do that, I loaded my myfinds pocket query and started logging.  I started yesterday while we were doing other things, and continued today, but when I continued today, I was surprised to find that many of the caches I logged yesterday were not logged as found anymore, but when I looked at my totals, they were still counted, so at that point, I realized that I could just log the same one over and over again until I get to the number that geocaching.com shows.  So, I've caught up with all my find, except traditionals.  I have 3653 of those to do, which will take awhile, but for the logging the same cache over and over again option, after you log, hit, "back, back, menu, down, enter."  On a side note, don't go over your numbers on geocaching.com.  I accidentally went over by 3 on multis, and I can't figure out if I delete those or not.  Even when I delete my previous logs, the total logs stay the same, so I guess I won't mark the next 3 multis I find on my GPSr.  I know this doesn't really matter  to most people, but for those of you who are OCD like me, I thought it might help a little.  :)
