Garmin Edge 705 - paperless?

Recommended Posts

Define "true paperless". What do you want it to do?

Originally a "paperless" device meant you could SEE all the cache information on the unit while out in the field, including stuff like the previous finders logs etc..

Nowadays "true paperless" means you can also WRITE information back to the unit while out in the field, and upload the results back to the web once you get home.

I don't think the 705 can do the current definition of true paperless..

Hum, now I am really confused, all I want is to be able to see all the information. Writing back is no big deal, I enjoy doing that manually.

No it can't be used for true paperless.

But is is a very accurate and fast device, very useful in caching.

I use it like this: for sedning cache data to the unit. Normally you need to erase all waypoints every now and the, and it must be done on the device.

The paper stuff I download to my smartphone, since it is not that accurate.

I have an Edge 705 and a Palm TX. I download the pocket quiries to to the Palm TX using GPspinner and Isilo which means i can have the details of 1,000 caches with me. I can then manually enter the coordinates for a cache I want to find.

Once i have found a cache I log them back at home on a net book though if there is WIFi I can log them in the field using the WiFi on the Palm TX.

My plan is to buy a Palm Pre3 when they become available in the UK to replace my Palm TX and my mobile phone. I will still use the Edge as it is a good GPS
