It adds some shock resistance, and has a heavy, raised ridge around the screen, which provides some protection against impact and scratches. It has a hole in the back for access to the USB jack. The case has the texture of sandpaper.

 

But it's no good for my purposes. It has a belt clip that is not spring steel. While I was walking through heavy brush, the cord got caught on a branch, and the belt clip bent outward and stayed that way. I'd had that case for about an hour. So, no more belt clip.

 

There's a lanyard that is too short to hang around the neck (they sell lanyards, all longer than factory provided). There's a cheap plastic clip on the end.

 

I have a place on the car dashboard where the GPSr fits by itself, so I remove it from the case frequently. I went back to using the same old clamshell "Garmin Hardcase" that I used with my 550. It's much faster to put the GPSr in and take it out of that case.

 

Also, I can't use an open-faced case and not get the screen scratched. I have a "screen protector", but for me, that's definitely not the way to "protect" the screen. It's much less likely to cause scratches or impacts to the screen when the GPSr is in the clamshell case.

 

On the plus side, it looks like most people love the Gizzmovest.

That's the "Garmon 600/650" Case from Amazon. The USB port is off center for... I don't know what for. So I have to open the case to use the USB port.

If I shake the case, I can feel the GPSr bump around slightly left and right. There's lots of space around the whole thing. It would be quite a lot to handle for small hands, although it's simple to lift the GPSr up and hold it without dismounting it from the case. I don't know why there's so much space. If they made a smaller version (and especially if it were neoprene or something more easily washable than cloth), I'd definitely buy it. As it is, you could drop this thing onto concrete and not phase it. Don't ask how I know that.

 

 

It's secured inside the case with Velcro, and it's on a Garmin mount clip inside. I have to dismount it to use the USB port, didn't have to do that with the 550.

 

I have a backpack with a loop on a shoulder strap, and my plan is to hang the case from that, so it can open at its 90-degree angle for easy viewing while hiking.

hmmmm. Decisions ,decisions. Not a lot of options for what probably is a popular unit. Thanks for the input.

I have the same case and am quite happy with it. With mine, the GPSr fits quite snugly. Yes, it is a handful (bulky) but I'm good with that. My previous unit, a GPSMAP 60CSx, that had a thin leatherette case, took one beating too many and the case screws holes became stripped.

 

The hole for my power/usb cable is right where it is supposed to be. There is also a hole for a camera for the units with a built-in camera.

 

The belt clip, that is spring steel, I found to be adjusted too "tight" where I had a hard time opening it enough to clip onto my belt and I had to use quite a bit of force to open it a bit for easy use.

 

Me, I recommend it (alas, thats more than what I can say for my new Oregon 600, that I'm not so satisfied with)
