GPSMAP64 and preloaded caches

I am looking to purchase a new unit and would like to know anyones experience with the preloaded caches that come with the GPSMAP64. I am a casual cacher and cache with grandchildren sometimes so I am thinking that spending an extra $50 may be easier. My other option is the eTrex20.

Don't let the 'preloaded caches' influance you...

The data can get old and out of date very quickly.

Do you really want to spend time searching for a cache that was preloaded, that has been since been Temporary Disabled because it's missing, or even Archived?

Why not consider the Oregon 600?

The preloaded caches should not be part of your decision. They are significantly out of date and only contain about 10% of the actual geocaches out there. Most people delete the preloaded geocaches soon after buying the device.

Choose which style of device you like; button, joystick or touchscreen.

The preloaded caches show up when your in the area in which they reside. If your not using the geocaching app you'll miss out on a lot of caches. For instance, I look at Geocaching.com, pick an area I want to go to and upload all the caches that are there. After you've found them you can delete them. Both gps's can be uploaded with geocaches fairly simple.I own both of the gps's that you mention and the 64 if far better than the etrex20. The 64 has more options and screens to aid in geocaching and general use and the buttons are better than the joystick. The buttons are on the face of the 64 and below the screen. ( ease of navigation) where as on the 20 they're on the side and can be awkward trying to navigate with one hand, though it can be done. The joystick can be a real pain, moving to fast or slow when saving tracks or loading coordinates manually. For the money go with the GPSMAP64
