Pup Patrol
Hi, does anyone have a template for a star Geo art? Have you tried contacting the CO of one of the star geoart thingies? B. Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
The two that I've looked at do not look well delineated on the maps. Oh, well. They do look like stars, but a bit disarranged. When I did my GeoArt, I used Acme Mapper to define my coords. Came out fairly well. (Since archived.) A bit of work involved (okay. a lot of work.) But, isn't there already a NJ 50 Star? I've been working on the Tri-State Star, with caches in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. But I thought that all three states had stars already? Can we/should we add more stars per state? +palmetto
To HarryDolphin on, "Can we/should we add more stars per state?" Can? sure. Should? up to the cache owner. No one owns the "star" as geoart. ------------------------- Re template. Without knowing the size of the area you're working with, or the cache types you might use, hard to say. Geoart only exists on the Geocaching.com map, and how recognizable it is depends on zoom, and how other caches near disturb the figure. A 5 point star could be created with as few as 10 points, 10 caches; 5 for the center pentagram, and 5 for the tip of each point. Wouldn't look like much at many zoom levels, but would be a star at some zoom levels. If you want to stick to a symmetrical figure, you'll want to add caches in groups of 10 (2 per side of star point; hence 10, 20, 30, etc caches per star. If you do something free hand, slanted, asymmetrical (which would be cool, and interesting) you'd be a liberty to use other numbers of caches. I'd stick with 5 pointed star for recognizability. Bigger art with more caches is clearer at more zoom levels, requires more physical caches, more space. Large figures require big cache empty areas - the blank canvas. In the eastern US, those blank canvas areas are often empty for a reason - either no geocaches allowed, or slow complex permit systems ;-) To be published on Geocaching.com, when using Mystery caches to create the art, the physical cache MUST be within 2 miles of the listing bogus coords!! Here's a link to the Geocaching.com map of a star in Florida, the standard 50 caches, for the 50 stars in 50 states series. Looks like a star at many zoom levels. The star is about .8 miles radius. The map default is zoom 14, and that's what I've linked Star map Edited July 25, 2016 by palmetto Quote Link to comment
+GeoTrekker26
Hi, does anyone have a template for a star Geo art? Did you try Google? A search of "geoart spreadsheet" (without the quotes) returned something that may be useful. Edited July 25, 2016 by GeoTrekker26 Quote Link to comment
+OReviewer
Remember, local laws and guidelines apply so talk to your reviewer(s) about it. There have been some issues with having geo-art submitted in your area that don't meet the local laws/guidelines. Quote Link to comment
