PISA-caching
I was browsing through my waymarks today and suddenly I asked myself: What's the most remote (or is "outlying" the better word) waymark I have? In other words: Which of my waymarks has the biggest distance to the next waymark. There's no easy way to find that, but I checked some waymarks that I thought have a chance. The biggest distance I found was 12.1 km (> 7.5 miles) for http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMKZ8G . Not that much, but now I'm curious: Do you have any waymarks that have a big area for themselves? Edited May 24, 2017 by PISA-caching Quote Link to comment
Manville Possum
Well, being the only Waymarker in the whole region, many of my WM's are in out of the way places. Recently I have been Waymarking and Benchmarking in Black Mountain, Kentucky. The John Garrison Rock House US Benchmark D 328 Edited May 24, 2017 by Manville Possum Quote Link to comment
fi67
Interesting idea, but not very compatible to my personal posting habits. When I find something to post, I usually find more than one thing. I have almost no solitary waymarks, most are not far from their nearest neighbour, that was also created by me. I found a 9.3 km (but it is a cross-post in two categories, so you can also say the score is 0). Then I found a real 6.6 km, but I have plans to visit this area again soon. On the other hand, I have lots of groups of waymarks far away from the next group. Edited May 25, 2017 by fi67 Quote Link to comment
PISA-caching
@Manville Possum: I'm talking about long distances between waymarks. Your Benchmark D 328 for example is 3.2 km away from the next waymark. @fi67: Usually I also find more than one waymark, but we were on a bus tour and it was just a short stop in that area, so I didn't take many photos for Waymarking. Also, I could and will cross-post http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMKZ8G in "Free Community Book Exchanges" and will disqualify it by doing that. Another candidate is http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMPE7C_Monument_for_the_Residents_of_Piwniczna_killed_in_WW_II_Piwniczna_Zdrj_Poland which is at least 10.5 km away from the next waymark. I think the Groups idea would also be interesting. When I look at this waymark of Manville Possum and click on "Nearest Waymarks" I see that the nearest waymark -NOT posted by Manville Possum- is 13.2 km away. Quote Link to comment
Tuena
I posted a cemetery at Hanging Rock (Hanging Rock Historic Cemetery) NSW with the nearest waymark 24.5 kilometres away & my nearest 47.5 kilometres distant. Apart from the cemetery there is nothing else there. Quote Link to comment
Tuena
My Queensland entrant is an Elevation Sign at Eungella west of Mackay with the nearest waymark being one of mine 38.6 K's distant. Quote Link to comment
MountainWoods
I have a single Waymark west of Denver that is about 440 miles away (as the Flow Cries) from my next nearest Waymarks -- a group of several I posted in Arizona; and about 550 miles away from the nearest Waymark to it in my regular stamping grounds of Southwest Missouri and the 4 states (with that nearest one in southeast Kansas). Like geocaches in remote locations miles away from others. Quote Link to comment
T0SHEA
Best I can do with a quick search is this one Indian Cabins Traffic Webcam. The nearest one of ours is 93.8 kliks SW - Meander River North Traffic Webcam Edited May 25, 2017 by BK-Hunters Quote Link to comment
PISA-caching
I think we're mixing different distances in this thread. :-) My initial idea was: Biggest distance from one of my own waymarks to the nearest waymark of any user (including myself) - let's call this A-X|A fi67 said he has groups of his waymarks far from waymarks of other users. In other words: Biggest distance from one waymark of user A to the nearest waymark of another user (with waymarks of user A in between) - I call this one A-A-X Tuena started a new category: Biggest distance between two of his own waymarks (with waymarks of other users in between). This would be A-X-A I think MountainWoods is the winner in this category with 711.3 km distance between this waymark and the nearest of his other waymarks. The best A-X-A I found within my own waymarks was 116.5 km between my Choklad & Karamellfabrik and Rock Carvings in Tanum. Anyway, the most fascinating ones are probably the A-X|A. Some impressive examples are the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station (I wasn't able to find out the distance to the next waymark) and also Uganda Equator with 374.2 km distance to the next waymark. +T0SHEA
Ok, then for http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMJ8RB_Indian_Cabins_Traffic_Webcam_Indian_Cabins_AB A-X|A=15 kliks AND A-X-A=93.8 kliks Keith Edited May 26, 2017 by BK-Hunters Quote Link to comment
elyob
I badly wanted to represent this country where I once lived. Of course, if I had more waymark style photographs, this waymark would have closer neighbours. WMG6W0 about 764 km from next waymark, I think My own next nearest waymark would be thousands of miles distant in Europe, likely Italy (5181 km). Edited May 26, 2017 by elyob Quote Link to comment
fi67
Maybe still not the final result, but these are my finds until now: A-X|A: 7.9 km WMMGE6 (A train station, where I only had about three minutes to change to a connecting train.) A-A-X: 24.9 km WMPZ65 (The closest waymark not by me is 67th closest waymarks of all, in the middle of page 3) A-X-A: Well, I think this is a cheat, you probably want to exclude the category "Where's In A Name?" But this included: WMCYCH is 8140.9 km from my closest waymark WMNJ9K. Quote Link to comment
