"Frozen map"

French Carrot

Recommended Posts

Hi, looked for an answer on the FAQ but was not able to find anything.

Since about 2 or 3 weeks now, I cannot click on the caches and see their description on the map from my computer.

Everything else works fine : I can edit logs, track TB's, email and hide caches

This somehow seems to coincide with finding my 100Th cache - is it a feature of the site to make me upgrade my membership?

I use windows 7 and my browser is Chrome

I've noticed this for the longest time.

After zooming or panning the map, some of the caches on the map are "dead": nothing shows when you hover the mouse over them, and nothing happens when you click. (This with various versions of Firefox including the latest-n-greatest.)

Try zooming or panning some more, and they'll come back to life. (Well, they do for me.)

I assume this is a bug they know about...

This is very similar to the problem that I am having. My issue started on my "old" android tablet. I upgraded to a premium membership about the same time GC had a major website upgrade. After that, it was difficult to get the cache description pop up. It opened about 20% of the time. Sometimes a page refresh would help. I decided that my tablet was getting too old and tired. Fast forward to last night. I now have a brand new android tablet and the problem is a little worse. Of course, I don't take the tablet out caching. But, I like to browse in the evening while sitting on the couch. The pop ups work fine on my "old" PC, running Vista, using any browser.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Joining in the thread - I also experience this problem on my Windows 8.1 Surface Pro 2, and my "old school" iPad v1. I would think if it was an issue with "mobile platforms" I wouldn't see this on a SP2.

I'll admit I'm not the web coding expert here, but it would be nice to understand if this is something on the hit list for for GC.com in future releases?

While the problem seems "random" I know enough to know there's no such thing as random IT or software problems. We just can't yet pin-point the root cause.

Happy to help troubleshoot this further for GC.com if they need input.

Cache safely, and cache often!
