I started an index of geocaches with a history theme. Already it is off to a good start but

we need more. If you are interested in geocaching with a history theme then you might be interested

in this project. History buffs welcome to forward me information of their favorite geocaches.

Thanks Trader! I have so many for Florida, I started a special page. Florida is the most populated for

www.historycaching.us

SC is next, Georgia, Ohio and one in NJ. Just for fun with words, I decided to change the name from

Index (boring) to Union. So we are looking for more states to join the Union of historical Geocaches.

To add more fun to this, I am thinking of finding organizers from each state and call them Governors.

Anybody want to be the Governor of Ohio? SC? NJ? More info on this later.

I have historic caches along the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail, all with web related information, in historically accurate locations. I am currantly adding them to another geocache listing service. Check out my profile and see if these caches are of interest to you, I think that I have what you are looking for. Just send me a email if you are interested. With this stormfront coming, I may have some extra time indoors.

Try putting the GC in front. GC2AYQ3

There was a similar thread about rounding up history caches not long ago. The consensus was that you have a monumental task ahead of you. Depending on how you define "history cache," probably a third of the caches out there could qualify. Washington state has thousands of history-themed caches, e.g. One of our locals was keeping a history caches bookmark list, but gave up because there are so many. Another cacher decided to focus on railroad-history caches in WA, and developed a fairly complete and manageable list.

Any plans to expand into Canada?

I have several Historical themed caches myself, that even involve US history.

Sure the more the merrier. Can I appoint you the Governor of Canada? You can put the information

together and I will edit and published it.

I will also add your picture if you like.

I sort of like to stay in the background .... no titles for me! :)

I'll point you to my caches that are historical, and you can decide if you want to include them.

Hello,

I thought I would start a new thread for updates since the other ones are getting a lot of activity.

I recently updated HistoryCaching website

with some new features.

1) A poll to get an idea what topics of history are the most popular.

2) A place to subscribe which is ideal for the next two features.

3) Added Governors links feature which will be geocachers who have assumed responsibility to collect and

organize history themed geocachers from their state. And 4) Scouts who will assist them be makiing

suggestions.

6) And finally, I added two more states with their own pages to our Union of History themed geocachers.

Welcome Alabama and Michigan to the Union!

Where ever possible I will added some history talk to our endeavors. :)

Historically yours,

Ray Osborne

Keep them coming. Also I have a penchant of Native Cultures and archeological sites, so if you come across any of those let me know.

I started a bookmark list of NJ's history related caches. I will be adding to it as I learn about more.

I visited that list. Some good revolutionary geocaches to visit and the Den looks interesting. Here is a suggestion you may want to try, consider visiting Waymarking in your state and consider planting caches closeby to their historical waymarks. A symbiotic relationship that can help both.

Also if you drop into President Cleveland Home which is now a museum you might see if they would take a flyer about a nearby geocache. I started making up little laminated cards with the name of the nearby historycache and leaving them at historic museums public tables (permissions of course). I think building symbiotic relationships with members of local historic community has merit. A lot of them are not technology minded but often I hear. "Oh yeah, my son or daughter is into that." Which might prove a good bonding hobby. I think that is what makes my day when I read a log entry and you hear of a family finding and enjoying the history-cache together. Now if I could just get them to take a picture and upload it. :)

I've often thought of placing a cache at the Cleveland birthplace. Being that a caretaker lives on the property I would not do it without permission. One of these days I'll try to obtain that. My daughter lives across the street from the GC birthplace so I'm there frequently enough.

I created my first bookmark last night about some of the local history caches in my area. I still need to add some more, I only listed 50. This is still a self-taught learning experience for me.

I am not sure this link works but with the Web Feedback feature here at Geocaching

I ran the keyword history and came across these measures looking for votes. I didn't

vote before because I didn't know about it. But I did now. So if this link doesn't

take you there. Consider going there and enter your votes.

I just voted for 'history cache icon' what do you think? http://uservoice.com/a/ehAD0 #Geocaching #feedback

Thanks everybody, to make this easier I am happy to link book mark lists to dedicated history

related caches to my main page under the appropriate state. Not the ideal case scenario but

functional nonetheless.

BTW: Has everybody voted in the poll section here for Historical Attributes and a Historical

Icon? If not and you plan to, consider leaving the ranking of that poll item when you voted

in the comment section. That way we can watch these initiatives gain momentum.

Hi RKO,

Nice project! Very ambitious.

I cache primarily in Northeast Iowa, Southwest Wisconsin, and Northwest Illinois. Here's a list of my 9 historic caches as well as several others that I have found. See Rhode Island Geo-History.

Some of the caches are archived.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the whole page of Rhode Island historical geocaches. Sure I can link the page to my main page. Is

this your page? Do think they would reciprocate with a link to

HistoryCaching ??

Our Rhode Island Geo-History page is basically in inactive/archive status. It has not been updated since 2007. But feel to use the contents as you wish.

Good luck.
